I build/fix computers for a living There was no user error involved. Just a terrible GPU manufacturer who still cant get their drivers working well. Remember the hype surround ATi 11.1 then 11.2 drivers? Complete fail. Where are the 50-100% improvements ATi was talking about?
Nice try chief, I haven't said anything for or against either company in this thread, in fact, if you look closely you see I have both brands in my rig so no defense here.

Not going to get in the fanboi argument with you, your post history over the last 3 weeks speaks far more than I could ever say. OCN is about adding to the community, not screaming your bias in every thread that its even remotely relevant in, either way, I would just prefer that the OP doesnt receive bad advice because of your misgivings, he asked about being able to crossfire

And to the point of your credentials, I feel sorry for your customers having someone driven by such bias, they will miss out on good deals because they aren't getting full access to the market.

I am not going to be as polite as you are but the guy is an idiot. I am also profoundly sorry for his ignorance.

5970 = 2x 5870 gpus @ 5850 clocks. Confusing huh, ?

&

Trifire (3x) 5870 > 5970 +5870

How does trifire 5850 compare to 6950/69870 crossfire?

But the 5850 and 5870 and 5850/5850, 5870/5870 can. Or a 5970 with a 5970

Plus you have a 5970, what more can you actually want?
WRONG. It is both physically possible, and compatible. In fact, the HD 5850 is a popular card to tri-fire with the HD 5970. People on here do it all the time.

6950/6970 crossfire scale a lot better than the 5870. The 6870 xfired is really on the heals of the 5870 xfired. Prices are still a bit high for the 5870, if your looking to upgrade go for the newer 6xxx series. Unless you find either a 5870 or 5850 at an insanely low price (some 5850s have sold for around $150), then it does not make sense to get a 58xx atm when the 6xxx series are better and in some cases costs less

Thank you. I am running Asus 5850 DirectCU TOP @ 975/1200 in a crossfire along with my Sandy. I paid $330 for both.

Stop giving this guy bad advice, Adding a 3rd card to something that should already be the best is a waste. My point is obviously the best ATi has to offer isnt good enough so he should move to another company that wont disappoint him. I dont get why you fanboys have to be so hurtful.

You have already failed bro, just go away, everyone saw right through you, and while you scream at us claiming we are fanboys you dont address the fact that you are the only one that displays the symptoms.

That being said, I am proud of your progress, after you were called on it yesterday, I see that you participated in 3 or 4 threads that had nothing to do with GPU bashing, dont you feel better?

You have been here for years, but especially looking at the amount of time you have been here your post count is low, but worse than that your rep count based on those posts is dismal, it really goes to show that when you did post, it wasn't helpful, or knowledgeable, or even appreciated.

Its not too late though, before this I didn't know who SimplyTheBest was, so that tells me you were not a prolific troll, more of a casual troll, because of that you can still turn it around, get rid of your dirty troll image, move out from under the bridge and contribute to OCN...I have faith that you can spread your wings, and on the heat of your SLI cards you can rise above your current existence

OP, I don't think you need to CF a 5970. Its a very strong card, if you get low FPS, look for the probblem elsewhere, like CPU, or your DDR2 RAM. After that, just OC the thing, no need to CF it. HD5xxx doesn't scale good enough, for what I know, to be worth CFing. +5850 will barely have any positive effect
