2xGTX470 Vs GTX580

Thread Starter
Hi All,
New on here so dont be too hard. I have the Acer Predator Crusador 2.
I have the GTX470 installed(love it). Now I am thinking of upgrading, should I:
a) Buy another 470 for SLi
b) Sell my 470 and buy a GTX580
Either way the costs are around the same.

I play BF2 and Medal of Honour. And am awaiting the arrival of Diablo 3 somewhere in 2020.

Your suggestions would be most welcome.

The 470 SLI will be the better option if your looking at pure FPS - upgrade path, the 580 will be the better option

The GTX 470 SLI will have more power than a single GTX 580, but if you wanted more, you would have to change out things regardless. If things are going to be around the same price, I'd go for the GTX 580 because later you can buy another 580 when they are cheaper and have way better performance. However, if you are planning to play mostly D3 when it comes out, single card is going to be the better solution because Blizz is never going to get around to supporting dual card.

Basically that. You'll get a better fps gain with the 470's, but in the long run you could upgrade to SLI 580's.

Both will be pretty awesome. I have dual 470's and they max just about everything (excluding 3D gaming).

I kind of agree with the above posters though. One 580 now and SLI later maybe? Either way you will be happy.

^^^ me too. Max on all games I play. I would buy another 470. If your mobo will accept tri-SLI, you can always upgrade even further if you ever need to.

Personally.. I would go for the more up-to-date.
Being the GTX 580;
- Cooler
- Quieter etc..

When you SLI that in the future you will be more than happy.
The GTX 470 can get very hot, and the fan on it is very, very loud.

Then when you put two hot, noisy cards together there'll be even more heat and noise.

I'm sure a single GTX 580 will be cooler, more power efficient and less noisy.

I advise you to get the GTX 580, then SLI in the future if you need/want too. XD

Thanks for reading, Danny.
