Well...
I recently benched my i3 2120 on gta 4 w/ stunning graphics mod + 3 modded guns + 2 car mods...I dont think that shows up in the cd's bench mode...BUT, in testing mode it got a solid 68fps.
Then another topic just recently a fellow mentioned getting 68fps on an i7 2600k when he benchmarked GTA 4...but I dont know if he had mods or any add-ons.
To me the i3 still is a repsectable chip for the price. I really had doubts before buying this thing, but I really enjoy GTA 4 on an i3...for real the game looks really good.
But the story will continue once Skyrim comes out...I wonder if my rig can handle that beast of a game..???
If someone was uprading from a e7XX chip I would totally support the new i3's as the new budget chip.

Skyrim doesn't look too hard to run, mainly just a console port, really.

idk man,
The way everyone is talking about it, to me it would seem to be a very demanding game for cpus & gpu's. Its going to be a little more than a ported game from the console. The game is all about the latest graphics, such a huge improvement over oblivion.

But im sure an i7 would be a better way to go handeling that game.

Sorry to tell you but bullllllllllllll**** on that. I have both chips and did your test and came out way different with the i7 actually beating on the i3 by at least 15fps Max and Min in most cases and if not higher in some others. Does that mean alot? Well as a gamer a 15+ fps boost is GREAT esp when it makes or breaks fluid from chopiness. On top of that i3 cant utilize dual video cards since it becomes the bottleneck with Dual Gtx 580s i could only get the i3 to run them at around 50% basically means my dual 580s turned into one lost half my performance just with a i3. The i3 is only good for a budget computer at best dont try to compare it to the i7 in any way. This is not a benchmark war cause we know the i7 would completely kill the i3 in that but when it comes to gaming thers a BIG boost to gain from a i7 esp in the long run.

When you have the "proof" to back up what you say, then I'll believe it. This was never meant to be a "the i3 is better than the i7" thread. The point was that for some people the i3 would be a better buy, those restricted by budget because it offered comparable performance in most cases. But since this appears to be your one and only post and you registered this month, I'll just say get off my thread troll.

Troll fails to comprehend that for gaming having an i7 is no big deal.
Thats why lots of people are getting 2500k and doing TriFire/TriSli or even Quads...
And I can honestly say that if there was an SB i3 2100k me and some other persons in this forum would get them and we would be happy with them.

this makes me so salty lol are you kidding me. alright why dont you post ingame charts like you said dirt 3 has its own benchmark tool, and show us that instead of user generated graphs for the most parts. if all this si true then many guides will be able to subsitute lower end i7's for budgets of high end i3s and make the same differences. extraordinary. i still think the i7 is more future proof as more games will ustilize 4 cores and especially newer games using dual gpu scaling.
