Is my SSD limited by slow CPU speed?

post #1 of 19

Hey everyone, I just finished getting my 128GB C300 set up and am loving it, I can tell a huge difference in startup, loading games and using Windows as a whole.

What I'm wondering is if my old Athlon 64 X2 2.1GHz is holding it back. I've noticed there is still a lag of a few seconds when opening firefox and other programs, is this normal? I do plan to upgrade when SB is released again but I would like to know if that will give me that almost instantaneous response time that I've heard so much about.

I have run benchmarks and am getting my advertisted speeds so I know that's not the problem.

Have you remembered to setup your pagefile/swapfile to be set on your ssd only? After I did this I noticed a huge difference. Also if you have 4GB of ram or higher dont be afraid to leave superfetch on as with the ssd as your pagefile ul feel even more of a boost with all your most used applications being cached including firefox. Try those and let me know how you get on.

@Ace Telekinesis

Yes, I have my pagefile on the SSD and it is set to a size of 1GB, superfetch is also enabled.

Only 1GB? Id set that to at least 8GB+ and/or put windows managed size. Also just curious what motherboard controller are you using? Is it SATA150/SATA300/SATA6 ? If on SATA150/SATA300 then ul be experiencing a bottleneck. Really ul need to be on sata6 to get full juice.

Okay, I'll give that a shot. I read on one of the guides here somewhere that 1GB is good so I went with that. I'm running 4GB of RAM so I'll match it to that and see what happens.

As for my specs, I'm running SATA 3Gbps on an nForce 570 board and using Nvidia drivers for the SATA controller.

As I said, I will be upgrading to SB with SATA 6Gbps on the intel chipset so I will probably see much better performance then.

Ah I use a 570 nforce board too. Could you post the results of ATTO HD benchmark? Here is my Corsair F40 SSD on the same controller.

More than happy to

EDIT: We're running the same board and CPU cooler

Gotta love the NH-D14, I just got it like two days ago.

Why, because it's bottlenecked so badly?
Upgrades are on the way when SB is rereleased.
