I'm actually looking at this as partial good news because that means they are caring about how their games turn out and may put it off till after BF3 and other major releases to release Mirror's Edge 2 with a new studio or complete rework. All we know is, that phrase "an important franchise" does in fact mean they are not giving up on it right now.
I totally am stoked now because truth is i 'just' got ME the day before they announced they were canning the sequel and i went from having high spirits about this stellar world they created to having them shot down, because even though i feel like (and i'm only half way threw) ME feels complete the way it is.. It leaves potential for so much more
and i honestly haven't felt so immersed in a first-person view since the original Bioshock. The 'body-awareness' they got goin on is breathtaking, as well as the animations, voice-acting, jaw-dropping graphics (that's unreal engine what?!) not to mention that theme song 'Still Alive' that sticks with you arguably as much as the song of the same name, from the end of Portal. Albeit in an entirely different way
DICE proved that they, unlike the creators of most FPS (which IMHO most generic video game genre around today) can actually take a step outside of the greys, browns, and reds to create a colorful paradise with a twist and take audiences in the footsteps of a journey even most fantasy game creators haven't thought to tread.
ME 2... wherever you may be... whenever you may be... i'll be waiting. With a sock on my foot and a spark in my heart... i'll be waiting.
