6 monitors on single 6870 - Page 2

I did post the 6 port 5870 above...... wink.gif

Depending on the monitor size's and how demanding the simulator is..... It may be alot of load.... Only other option is the 5970 6 port, though at close to $1000 it would be cheaper to get two $260 5870's...

the monitors will be 5 19" hd and a hd projector i'm now going through the process of choosing the right monitors for our needs. can the display ports be easily adapted for a hdmi input on the monitors?
sorry for all the questions i am not very up to date with all the new graphics related stuff lol.

well it's fsx i plan to use that is the most commonly used sim in professional sims and it has all the supporting software kits to drive the simulated instruments for gen 2 and even a 6 axis hydraulic rig once i get to that stage in a year or two. from what iv'e read so far fsx is cpu heavy i originally thought of using a 2600k or even a 980x but i was under the impression a 2500k would be more than enough. i plan to run fsx on absolute max settings aswell so it really looks good.

You will need to use active DP-HDMI adapters for more than three screens.

It sounds like you've got some stiff requirements and at that max res and driving that many displays, you might want the most powerful gpu you can get with E6. The Asus 6970 DirectCU II is what I would look at. It's the more powerful gpu and ofcourse has Eyefinity 6. It's about to hit the selves right now.

If it hasn't been mentioned already, You should look into Maxtor Triple Head 2 Go. With two TH2G, you can use either two graphic cards per unit, or just great video card with two TH2G units. Either way, you will have six monitor; three monitors per unit.

would i not benefit more from a multi gpu set-up?

i'm trying to find a 4x pcie board atm like my 790fx gd70 but obv for intel.
i can tweak the graphics down a bit but ideally it needs to look good as people will be paying for the service if it was just for me i'm happy using fsx on ok settings lol also the first gen prototype will be the only one to use so many screens as the next step is to use usb simulated instruments which will cut down 3 displays so at that point i will only need to drive the projector and the 2 19"s for the foot windows.

is there anyway of calculating the gpu requirements? coincidently the guy offering the 6870 has a second one hes trying to talk me into getting for my personal computer, would 2 6870's with 3 on each be sufficient?

There are advantages to cfx/sli and there are also disadvantages that come with it. I would start with the single fastest card you can get that supports E6. If you find the single 6970 E6 not enough you can add as many cards as you need, something you can't do with 6870s (which are limited to 2 only). FSX at E3 is damned demanding, with 5970s limited to under 50fps w/o AA. This is where the 6970 E6 with its 2gb vram will allow you to raise AA. Imo, 6870s would be severely choked in comparison.

Now that I think about it, I'm guessing from your expectations that you'll want a second card to CFX. Though it won't have to be a matching card (just a plain ole 6970). CFX 6970s are definitely faster than 5970s. Have you read this old review btw?

that is an excellent review thankyou.
it seems like i may get away with using a single 5870 (fingers crossed) as they were getting 83fps running 5760x1200,
the 2 monitors and projector running the heavy stuff i don't think will get that high in resoulution (i better work that out i guess) and then all it has to do on top of that is run basically 2 instrument displays which won't be too thirsty and if that can't run it 2 cards definitely will.
