eyefinity screen goes black

post #1 of 10
Thread Starter
Hey guys,

Just finally setup eyefinity and everytime i go into any game with eyefinity the screen goes black or grey but i can hear the sound just fine. the screen would flicker to desktop and back.

When i do alt+tab I can see the game run fine but when I go into the game its just a black screen then flickers...

Could it be the drivers? I installed latest 11.2 then removed it then installed 11.1a

I am using the display port Accell B087B-006B UltraAV Mini DisplayPort to DVI-D Single-Link Active Adapter ATI Certified (Black)

I have two 5970 CF

I don't know what the issue could be any suggestions?
I even left every settings on drivers default, even enable triple buffering

any help would be great! thanks

Only games I play are BF2BC and Source atm

I have heard some talk about the display port voltage being to low so it causes the monitors to go into stand by for a few seconds but this is totally different. Are you using a display adapter on any of the ports?

Also i know it sounds ****ty but you can play windowed mode till you get it figured out im pretty sure that's one of the work arounds people have been using.

Can you list out your outputs? How are your displays physically connected?

It should be all dvi: 1 dvi, 1 hdmi to dvi, 1 dp to dvi.

Well, i dont have personal experience with qaud fire but out of the hundreds of posts i read appearntly it sucks and it gives way too many problems, especially with ATI and the drivers.. so that might be an issue to look into

The unpowered adapters only go upto 1200P@60hz. What res are you running at?

I run two Radeon 5800 3x1 with the Accell Active adaptor. The screen flickering problem has been going on for a long time. Funny thing is that different driver versions will cause it and others will fix it. I am still using 10.3, and the general consesus was that it was the best version to prevent screen flickering. I would like to update to more current drivers, but the screen flickering isnt worth the hassle. Check out widescreengaming forums as well for more about this.

I would suggest getting this adapter instead.

Accell Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter (B087B-003J)

The UltraAV Mini DisplayPort to DVI Dual-Link adapter enables the connection of your Mini DisplayPort supported computer to a DVI Dual-Link supported television, monitor or projector. The circuitry built into the adapter seamlessly uses the power from the computer's USB port for its power needs.
Product Features
The Mini DisplayPort to DVI Dual-Link adapter is fully compliant to both DPCP (DisplayPort Content Protection) and HDCP (High-Definition Content Protection) ensuring full compatibility and successful transmission of video content. The adapter supports DVI Dual-Link resolutions of up to 2560x1600 (WQXGA) and all HDTV resolutions including 1080p.

The UltraAV Mini DisplayPort to DVI Dual-Link adapter supports up to 36-bit color depths delivering the flexibility to meet the needs of most display applications.

* Supports DVI dual-link resolutions up to 2560x1600 (WQXGA) and 1080p HDTV's
* Supports up to 36-Bit colour for billions of colors
* Supports all DVI-D Dual-Link and DVI-D Single-Link monitors
* Engineered for a fast and easy set-up, no software to install

I don't think this is a driver issue at all but a voltage issue. The adapter needs to convert the signal and the mini display port does not have enough juice on its own. The mini DP output is made for a mini DP monitor/projector that coverts the signal in the monitor/projector. This ^^ adapter uses USB power to power the converter before it gets to the non mini DP monitor.
