No ones forcing you or anyone else to buy these products. The general public, who are the mass buyers, the real market, would just buy whatevers best / price at the time, and keep it, not upgrade every year because something more powerful came along.

As regards heat and power usage, whatever companies design whatever chip, they will have to do so for the prospective market. If someone designs a mobile cpu that uses a battery (that fits the device) that runs out in two hours, no ones going to buy it.

In other words the chips designers aren't that stupid, let them worry about heat and power.

He means Tegra 2 devices are few and far between, and he as yet, doesn't own one.

This.

I love the fact that they are pushing the envelope. Keep all this speed coming and don't forget about the battery life. Just PLEASE don't release this crap this early. I mean, I know it's inevitable and all, but give us consumers a little breather in between these announcements.

Actually, my OG Droid has a metal strip that sits over the processor that acts as a heat sink.

I feel the same way. There's a frantic air about the mobile market that just makes me say to myself, "Stay away!" It feels like there's always something better just around the corner. I think I prefer the iPhone's yearly update mechanism, rather than everybody else's "Throw it all at the wall and see what sticks" approach.

I'm on a phone that's just a little under two years old, and have a computer that's about the same. The computer still plays the latest games just fine, still runs superbly. The phone is just barely holding up because I overclock the CPU and all sorts of other funky stuff.

Its an amazing how fast the mobile market is moving, but in all, it's moving a bit too fast right now, no time to settle down, always picking up and running to the next thing. No stability. There's probably some head-shrink terminology for it.

Engadget, while using the Atrix (Tegra 2 phone) very heavily, said the battery lasted for a full 24 hours. Thats better than what my Droid X does.
