I personally picked the 6850. It was about $40 more to go up to the 6870 (I stuck with Asus). And according to TechPowerUp's review, the 6870 wasn't THAT much better, not worth $40 to me anyway.

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/A...rect_Cu/7.html
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/A...ect_Cu/11.html
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/A...ect_Cu/28.html

However, it is a better card and if you want to spend the extra dough for more power, then maybe you should. It all depends on how much you want to spend.

I also did not want to go over $200 for my GPU, so my budget was a factor in my decision.

I won't vote on your poll because I don't think I should tell you what you should pick (especially with what little knowledge I feel I have compared to many others here), but I thought I'd just mention my reasons for going with the 6850.

I know that Gigabyte makes good, reliable motherboards. I don't know about their graphics cards though, or if they've had any issues with those. But I see people with Gigabyte GPUs on here relatively often.

well yeah thats true right now Im still spilt btw the two typecards. the 6870 is a bit over budget but I think it might be worth it in the long run. maybe not. most of the cards i have seen looks like the 6850 only really does lack about 20% less power then the 6870 in most cases.
there also an xfx 6850 black edition that was on ncix.com and i was looking at it but remember how much of xfx cards are defectives from the factory i changed my mind on xfx lol.

I just cant seem to choose between the two cards and after i do pick it, the brand will be the next question!

For brand it seems like Sapphire and Asus are favorites. I think you wouldn't really go wrong with either. Some people like MSI a lot too.

I think I have my eyes set on sapphire for the brand because i have only been hearing good things about them and plus my 4770cf are sapphires as well and they never failed me. xfx on the other hand i had so many issue with them I really dont wanna deal with them unless its comes down to it.

also
I will be planing to upgrade my lcds in the near future either to one bigger one or two 24'. so I will be wanting to make sure it will be able to handle the upgrades down the road.
Then 6870 it is......

alick. It seems like you have a dilemma! I had the exact same decision to make but I had to decide at launch when the cards first came out.

I chose the 6850 because at the time it was $60 difference. I have no regrets because I run my card OC'd 24/7 use and it's same performance as 6870. I play all games 1080p 8AA, 16AF.

6870 is like 5-8fps average faster, but with lesser OC headroom. 6850 OC'd free 5-8fps

You can't go wrong with either, both great bang for your buck. Choose 6870 if you dont feel safe OC'ing, choose 6850 if you want value and OC. Go with how much you wanna spend.. you'll be happy with either choice.

o i dont mind the overclock but the problem is that i sort of want a sapphire card but the cost of the sapphire 6850

http://www.canadapost.ca/shopper/sea...sapphire++6850

is almost close to other branded radeon 6870
http://www.canadapost.ca/shopper/sea...ice=129&page=1.
http://www.canadapost.ca/shopper/sea...ount_percent=0
so do i get a sapphire stock overclock and overclock it more which would be nice or do i get a a base model and overclock ? and which would clock higher?

the price difference for the 6850 and 6870 is only really about %15 but is the performance of the difference worth it? and the fact that the sapphire 6870 cost a bit more then the 6850 is really a downer on my end.
http://www.canadapost.ca/shopper/sea...sapphire++6870

so in the end I really want to get the best bang for my buck! plus i am looking at a budget of $170 to $220(tax of 12 included

as you stated the gain is like 5 to 8 fps so i might just get a 6850 ??
plus which brand is the best to overclock also xfx one brand plus powercolor that i really want to stay away from.
