The tab blocks the port, it's not meant to be a hand hold.

Yeah, it's the same cable as the one the original 360s came with. In fact the issue started popping up when the first 360s came out with HDMI not just the "slims."

While you think it might be silly for them to make it so you have to mod the cable or buy a special one to make it work, I think it's silly to have an HDTV and still use analog audio. But then again, that's just my opinion.

LOL, this is the Xbox solution for HDMI audio usage. They are not supposed to allow HDMI to be used with audio on another output. It's not Microsoft's trying to make you buy anything, that the agreement for HDMI usage. You should be happy you can do this, because most electronic devices turn off all other outputs when HDMI is being used, which is not the case with the cheesy solution Microsoft used.

it depends on your audio system.

if your system/reciever has hdmi audio capabilities then yes it is silly to use analog audio, but some people have older recievers that have little or no digital audio input, but still work great for the person using it. In which case analog audio would be more of a demand to access.

The funny thing is that the cable you are using is the same one designed for 360s without HDMI. Thus Microsoft did not devise some kind of devious scheme to rip you off, they just didn't spend time and money redesigning their cables.

Its a tired old problem that isnt even a big deal. Just buy the other cable its not like your situation is a normal one so you must pay for being out of the norm.

Truth.

When they came out with the HDMI capable 360s, they released a revised cable which fit with an HDMI cable and gave you optical and RCA audio out. I bought one because I wanted optical out to go into my soundcard so I could have 5.1 audio when gaming.

Plus not all receivers will pull audio from the HDMI cable.
