$400 Build. Assistance please? - Page 2

Actually, you could replace the motherboard and CPU in my build with this and this for more performance and a few bucks off. The mobo also supports DDR3 so you could upgrade to that later, and it has a core unlocker with support for 6-Core CPU's. With a PSU upgrade at that point, of course.

For a GPU, I've seen some GTX460's for $90. Definitely try to pick one of those up.

These: are a little more.

2GB is enough for W7, not for hardcore multitasking though. And the 4830 will serve you fine for moderate gaming. It wont max everything, but you'll at least have medium to high settings on most games.

Then give it a shot. Depends on the programs you're multitasking with I suppose. I wouldn't do photoshop and after effects at the same time though

multitasking for me is youtube + 5 internet page's while playing runescape. 1GB of ram has always done the job for me lol

You willing to pick up parts from a variety of places?
MC still has their AMD + MB sale going on.
VIA microcenter (sorry, no screen shot yet)

Phenom II X2 560 Black Edition & a MSI S785GTM-E45 for $100
Crucial 4GB DDR3-1333 (PC-10666) CL9 $40
Radeon HD5450 1024MB $40 after MIR ($55 before)
Seagate Barracuda 500GB 7,200 RPM SATA $50
Logisys SOHO 2 w480w PWR (not a great case, but hey, its cheap) $48
Samsung 22x DVD±RW DL - SH-S223F $20

Gets you in at $298
Plenty of room to pick up your OS of choice. If he's a student, you can get a cheaper copy of Win 7.

It does give you a 3.3GHz dual core, 4 GB, the card & MB will run Hybrid CF & 1GB VRAM, a fast HD & good space. Should run many games at low - med settings.

+$100 and you can pump up to a 5770 which has good gaming power (not great, but good)

(hope I didn't miss a part).
