Wi-Fi Question

Thread Starter
I live in a guest house in a separate building from my wireless router. My laptop picks up the signal fine with no problem but my desktop cant find it at all.

Does anyone know of any tips or tricks?

The router has no antenna so a booster antenna is out of the question.

Does anyone know of a receiving end boost type thing?

Thanks in advance!

Are you sure your desktop's wireless is working properly? What type of router are you using?

can you move the antenna, or case around to get a better signal?
if its usb, you can use an extension cable

I'd try to move the antenna as well. Usually the higher you can get it above the PC the better.

I have tried to move the antennas on the pci card. and it is set up correctly as far as i am aware because it works fine when I am in the main house. I feel like the card is just out of range and i find it weird that my laptop works fine from the same location.

Has anyone heard of a bigger antenna that i can buy to swap with the card that would pick up the signal better?

the case is an rf shield

all internal wireless cards should come with external antenna extension cables

How is your desktop getting wireless?

USB adapter?
Network card?

Laptops tend to have better wireless cards than you would get for a destop.

I have a $50 dollar wireless card in my desktop, but my laptop still always get a better signal.
