RAM for Asus Maximus Gene III

Thread Starter
I just bought an Asus Maximus Gene III I know its an older board. I also got a i5 Lynnfield Quad Core. I wanted to know what RAM you would recommend. I was looking into getting G.SKILL Ripjaws X 4gig 1600 or CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4gig 1600 Any better suggestion would be welcome. I'm trying to get the best out of my computer.

Edit: Probably should narrow my question down, looking for 4gigs of ram no more than 140.

Thank you for your time.

I would go for the ripjaws X. They seem to use PSC (Powerchip IC Chip) so you can use a really low CAS latency (if you loosen your tRCD) and you can usually get them to run at a high frequency.

They also do their stock timings at 1.5v so thats a bonus.

PSC Ram can handle high frequency relatively well so you should be able to hit 2000mhz if you accomodate your timings properly. These kits are nice because you can run a low CAS latency, the only problem is you have to loosen the tRCD.

Instead of starting a new post I thought I would just hijack this thread as I am in a similar dilema.

I just got this board and didn't realize it was a bit dated but I just wanted an Asus card to run Crossfire and liked the features. Along with this motherboard I am upgrading from a i5 650 to a i7 875k hopefully that was a good decision or I just wasted a lot of money.

I have my system pretty much set just having an issue selecting RAM with so many options. Please help me decide.

System Specs:

Asus Maximus III Gene
Intel i7 875k
Corsair H50
(2) XFX 6950's flashed to 6970's

I must also note I have never overclocked anything before but with this new motherboard I have shown some interest which is how I came across this site and look forward to reading more about it and starting with a O.C. for dummies.

I cannot decide on how many DIMMs which speeds, which manufacturer, and have considered all those listed above but was hoping someone might be able to give me some firm advice on which RAM to get.

Thank you.
