Casual overclock i5 2500k cpu

Thread Starter
I want a casual safe overclock on my sandy bridge system. I got a 250gb maxtor PATA hard drive with a SATA 1 adaptor installed on it running into the SATA 2 ports since it does not work in the 4 SATA 3 ports.

I been running it for a bout a week and half and so far no speed degration on that drivem; maybe in a months it could happen.

At rest it's
Motherboard27 °C (81 °F)
CPU26 °C (79 °F)
CPU #1 / Core #124 °C (75 °F)
CPU #1 / Core #227 °C (81 °F)
CPU #1 / Core #326 °C (79 °F)
CPU #1 / Core #426 °C (79 °F)
Aux21 °C (70 °F)
GPU Diode25 °C (77 °F)
Maxtor 6B250R028 °C (82 °F)
Seagate ST3500410AS24 °C (75 °F)

What frequencies with prime 95 have you found stable?

I ordered a 60 gb ssd for my OS and plan to clone it to it with my acronis true image home 2011

IMO 4.5ghz is a nice 24/7 oc that should require a minimal voltage increase.

Do you mean 2 Sata3 ports? Or do you have a secondary Sata3 controller on your mobo? There are only 2 Intel Sata3 ports.

FYI, cloning probably won't work and you're SSD will not be aligned if it does.

You need to do a fresh install, use 1 of the Sata3 ports. Also make sure those ports are set to AHCI or RAID in the BIOS.

What kind of SSD did you get? You will want to read one of the SSD guides available online to get the best performance out of it.

Using the Windows backup and restore won't work, but other software will, like Easeus Todo Backup. I have used it several times and it works great going from a large drive->small drive (automatically resizes all partitions and whatnot). Also, its free.
