Chiefmax, anyone heard of this company?

I need a new power supply and have been looking at numerous ones. I have settled on this:

Chiefmax 750w

750-watts total
ATX form factor
Ideal for multi-core Intel and AMD processors
Over-current protection
Over-temperature protection
20/24 pin ATX power connector
8 pin EPS+12V connector with detachable 4 pin P4 +12V
Six (6) Serial ATA Connector
Five (5) Molex power connectors
Two (2) floppy drive connection
Two (2) 6+2 pin PCI Express video connectors
Retail Package Includes:
750-watt power supply
Power cord
Specifications

DC Output+3.3v+5V+12V-12V+5VSB
Max
36A--38A--40A--1.0A--2.0A

and seems to fit the bill for me, but I have never heard of this company before. I have tried to google and look for reviews but cannot find any. I was wondering if anyone in here either has heard of them before or has experience with their products.

A 40A +12V rail is about standard for, oh, 500W power supplies. It's overrated garbage. Let me guess, $50? You'd be better off with a $50 400W power supply.

Chiefmax are one of the brands that should be avoided as a rule.

NOT TO BE CONFUSED with Chieftec, which range from mediocre to very high quality.

I wouldn't say that about it, but it is the best 400W PSU currently available (disregarding the >$100 SS X400) and the price is right at Newegg at the moment.

As I understand it, your computer just fried because of a cheap PSU. Don't go for another one. The learning curve regarding PSUs should be steep after the first failure IMO.

If you're not sure about what is good and bad you really can't go far wrong sticking to the recommended PSUs in the sticky. Don't buy something bad to save some cash, it's just not worth it.

I decided to go with this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182199

I just hope it's powerful enough for my GTX 275, and btw it is listed in the sticky tongue.gif.

That's a lot better reliability wise. Just remember, skimping on your PSU now will cost you headaches and empty wallets in the long run.
