Impressed with PC gamers attitudes... - Page 4

Piracy doesn't kill pc gaming, if anything, it's a minor hassle to the publisher. Besides, what about console piracy? Nobody seems to realize that console games are heavily pirated as well. The whole "piracy" propaganda is RIAA/MPAAs doing, these people seem to think that one download equals to one lost sale (and one lost sale = one less Ferrari for the multi-millionaire CEO), which cannot, cannot be further from the truth. What the hell these publishers expect when they saturate the market with sub-par drm-ridden console ports? That pc gamers are gonna bend over and buy this five-installs-only crap? No way.

And as for piracy - yes, it's happening. Get over it, not everyone has the money to buy games, not everyone is stupid enough to fall for marketing. In fact, giving your game to a friend is a form of piracy as well. Publishers would love nothing more than 1 person = 1 product. Remember starforce? You think it was against piracy or against you giving your game to a friend? Just make a great game, don't put drm on it and people will buy it. Look at Galactic Civilizations 2, look at gog.com (also pirated, btw).

Having of played games since the days of "pong was new", sure, I have leached my share of goodies... that said, as my age/economic means have improved my outlook and "capability" to purchase software has increased, and as such, ones ability to purchase software has well, increased.

Its simple homoeconimum, its cheaper (on my time) to simply purchase a game than it is to *** about with a download and various drm schemes. I could sit around and justify purchases by saying "I support this and that", to some degree it is true, but ultimately its a time and availability issue.

In the case of Crysis 2, its cheaper on my time to let the game "get" finished, let the bugs get worked out, and when its a solid product purchase the thing at my leisure... will that be release day? Nahh, probably not... thats just how it goes, hell let people pirate the ell' out of it, let em post their issues with it, makes the end product that much better to the paying consumer. The simple fact is, that if its not software its hardware, if its not hardware its some form of internet subscription, economy is happening, the question remains, to which hands does the users resources transfer to.

I would never pirate a game, however if developers just throw crap at us, and then complain that sales are ruined because of piracy, then that's their fault for making a terrible game.

The other thing that pisses me off is the fact that MS and Sony are holding back development with their outdated hardware.
Black Ops and Fallout NV were a joke at launch but the console owners had their issues as well (Not so much in BLops). All work fine now that’s the main thing.

My mate was playing FONV just last week and was moaning how it randomly froze and he had to restart the whole PS3.

On your final point RE being held back. Yeah is a PITA!! Things will improve for a time when the next gen comes out.

Yes there is piracy on xbox and PS3 but the greater install base helps to offset the losses.
I think developers have got the message with crazy DRM. There is nothing coming out with crazy DRM that I am aware of.

The music industry make a large amount of money from concerts -SOCIAL
The movie industry makes its money from Cinema – SOCIAL
I see online play in games like COD becoming subscription based again this is a SOCIAL thing (would really suck though )

I'm not going to say pirating is wrong or pirating is right. But not everyone in this world has money growing on trees in their backyard if you catch my drift.
People spend thousands on their rigs, Parents like myself spend hundreds on consoles for their children. Then having to go and spend £40, £50 or even £60 on games every other week or month is outrageous!
Something needs to be done about the pricing of games if you ask me! The prices over the years for games have doubled if not trebled, ok....yes the developing costs have gone up, but come on!!
Higher prices=More piracy it's as simple as that!

i'm sorry but I 100% support this
nearly all my friends at school that know how to use BT torrent all their frigging software, games, music, movies etc
its just disgusting
and they publicly discuss it on facebook or they go around boasting "oh I have crysis 2!" or "i have so and so software for free! so good!"

damn pirates
if you want good games, support the devs
we only have 2 or 3 good devs that support the PC gaming community (steam, Dice, cytrek) etc
the rest just give us crappy console ports that continue to hold us back
Thank you for your reply,
I mean, yeah I obviously agree with your statements too hence my +REP towards you. I have a few people I know that boast about getting things before people who get the retail product as well.

Anyway, let's hope CRYSIS 2 is an awesome game for the PC right?
I think CRYTEK may be surprised about how much less people will pirate it. Maybe for their statement that "They won't be doing PC exclusives like CRYSIS again because of the amount of piracy it had with the game." < I think I read somewhere that it was downloaded over 1,000,000 times?
Hell, that's alot of money! say even if it was £10/$17 a game.. it's alot.

and just btw i only have originals on my pc's anyway.

the only game i have free is TMF and then i still got the paid version
As I said to someone else, I "kinda" see your point..
But still, the developers don't think "Oh it's okay, 1,000,000 people have downloaded CRYSIS but they'll probably just go out and buy it this weekend or something.. Don't worry team! "

Though I did post a news thread about Direct2Drive offering rentals for games. It's still in the early stages.. so it has time to develop and they might be thinking that is the answer to pirating for your apparent reasons.

Either way, as mentioned. When CRYSIS 2 does come out next month, I hope the people that downloaded the "BETA" purchase the game. And best of all have a good time playing it.

Heck, the soundtrack was damn amazing in the trailer and on the demo at the menu for the XBOX 360 MP Demo. Really captures the alien, deserted, dredd of the people and intense action CRYSIS 2 will have.
Anyone agree?

When I first got a PC I used to pirate games but now I have grown up and have the cash I buy my games. I learnt that you need to buy games to support the developer and PC Gaming Commuinty, to get the patches and for online play. Steam helped alot with its community and easy downloading of games and updates. But now a days most games seem to be Xbox ports.
With Steam If you really want a game you can add a bit of cash at a time to your Steam wallet intill you have enough to buy it. Saving up for a game If you dont have the cash right away.

Exactly. As if every pc gamer has a decent job that allows him to buy 2-3 $60 titles and several low-priced games, not to mention that you can't replace the game if you didn't like it.

Well I am sure you dont have to buy every game that comes out just pick the ones you really want each year and save some cash come on its not that hard. Look for Deals and Sale's. I only buy maybe 3 games at launch in a year and wait for the Steam Sale at the end of year to get any others I might want but was not that high up on my list to play when they was first released.
