Buying cell phone from store vs from carrier

Are there any additional monthly charges or catches?

I'm thinking about getting the Atrix from Radio Shack for $150 after it comes out, but one of the commenters on Engadget mentioned something like this:

"$50 off up front but they get it back and more with the monthly business licensing fees(~$5*24mo=$120) Thats what happened to me when I bought my old phone from Best Buy."

I've never heard of this, does anyone know if it's true? If not, I'm going to get it from Radio Shack for $50 less, but if it's true, then I'm gonna preorder the phone and have it shipped to me on Tuesday.

Its true, also if you buy a phone from the store, the carrier may make you get any support from the store. So if you buy a verizon phone at radioshack, the verizon store may send you to radioshack if you need service for it

Hmm, bought my Evo from Radio Shack. No additional charges per month on my bill and have gone through Sprint for support many times since I got the phone on release.

They don't turn you away when you buy your phone off Craigslist why would they when you buy it from a licensed seller?

The only time Verizon would send you back to an indirect location is if that indirect location promised to waive your activation fees or something like that and did not do it or you wanted to return the device within the WFG.
