Need help choosing for my system... 9800GT or GTS 450?

The problem as of now (not sure when I will be able to afford an upgrade):
My processor is a 939 AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2Ghz I have managed to OC it to 2.5 Ghz stable. I have a 9400GT card and it runs perfect aside from the fact that its not for quality gaming (World of warcraft, Rift, Games of the likes).

I had recently purchased an ATI 5750 but got it home and realized it is not compatible with my Mobo / CPU (according to XFX who made the card)

I am now looking at the 9800GT or the GTS 450 which im pretty sure the 9800GT is compatible with my system not so sure on the GTS 450.

My question:

Does anyone have any recommendations for the highest end card I can run now and transfer over to my new rig when I get the money for a new Mobo/CPU?

The idea is to run the games listed above (Mainly WoW, Rift, and Vindictus) at as high of levels as I can with the bottlenecked system until I can afford to upgrade.

I am limited to what i can buy at Best buy (I know it sucks but i have 200$ in gift cards) id like to stay in the price range of around 150 - 175$ .

Thanks in advance for reading my wall of text.

**EDIT** Yes the board has a PCI-e x16 slot.

**2cnd EDIT** This has been introduced to my equation if its a better option.

Just wait a second, does your motherboard have a PCIe slot or an AGP slot? If you have PCIe the 5750 is compatable, if you have AGP you may as well replace your motherboard, CPU and ram while your at it. AGP is old, and the fastest card that still uses it is the ATI 3650 (that was a few years ago but I don't see why new cards would be made for it).

Yes I'm sorry didn't clarify it has 1x PCI-e x16 slot.

2.2Ghz single core CPU = Keep your money as it's pointless upgrading.

how can a gfx card be not compatible if ur mobo has pcie slot????
have u tried using it????

ontopic: out of ur 2 choices pick up gts 450...
or if ur budget allows pick an hd6850 or gtx 460,they will last u a gud while and u would not need to upgrade the gfx card when u upgrade ur whole rig....
