Crysis is not badly coded, It was simply just too far ahead of it's time. Not to mansion Cryengine 2 at any given time is processing 3-4x as many shader and effects as any other engine.

This is what my 5850's get, I am getting better frames now as they're now runngin 1Ghz core speed.

Your GPU usage us up there, my gpu usage hovers around 50% only..... average 42fps on the fly-by benchmark, and after clocking the card from 607 core clock to 750 core clock i get 43 fps avg LOL

I get about 23 fps avg on the assault harbor demo, that is a more realistic benchmark because there is actually a lot of stuff going on. What do you get on that benchmark?

If your GPU load is low then it's 100% your CPU as when on-screen action gets heavy your i7 doesn't have enough spare processing cycles to keep your GTX 470's fed with rendering information.

My min on Assualt drops to 33fps and average down to 47

I use to play this game...never had a problem on my 5850 in crossfire using q9550 processor...on stock i get 45 to 60fps

but if you overclock let say 3.8 to 4Ghz you get extra FPS, mine goes to 50 to 80FPS but never goes down to 20FPS

your getting bottle neck...I have done a lot of benching
and SLI/crossfireX setup will bottle neck the processor
even on my current rig...
1055T AMDX6 is enough to run 1 5850 or 1 5870 but on crossfire...
If you want to get more juice out of it....try overclocking your processor

make sure you've updated to the latest patch and always turn vsync off, it creates mouse lag.

I had good results with this custom crysis config utility, very cool, check it out.

There's only a few things you need to do...

OC that CPU dude! That's an i7... The GOD of overclocking.. Crysis tends to respond well to this when it comes to large fire fights.

Run it in 32bit mode! 64bit doesn't look any better, and in most cases actually reduces your overall fps.

Lower your AA! I don't know if you can tell the difference (even if you can, it's really not that big of an improvement), but the performance benefits in this game run out at about 4xAA, so that's where I'd put it if you want to have a great framerate in these fire fights.

After all of this, you should get some great frame-rates during fire fights, the overclocking of the CPU being the most beneficial!

Seriously though, you should be able to get to at least 3.4ghz with the stock cooler, and that'll surprisingly show a noticeable difference...

Hope I helped,

thats a clear sign of a severe CPU Bottleneck overclock to 3.5.

OK, i'm a noob to overclocking, so since i'm trying to get to 3.4 Ghz only, do i need to touch my voltages at all or is raising the blck up just enough?
