Whats the best setup for crysis1 to be PLAYABLE? - Page 3

i7-930 GTX470 SLI I would've thought that would pretty much nuke Cryshish. Try AA on 4x. Some people are obsessed with 'maxing' this or that rather than running at good FPS. Sounds a bit slow for your setup.
Not very good programming either, I can have over 100 guys running around shooting each other in Arma2 at over 60 FPS, and that's one of the most PC killing games ever.

Something is defniitally up with your system. I never get below 35 on the highest settings. Two 470's are great. Overclock your whole system and make sure SLi is still working. Get the newest drivers etc...

I'm a complete noob, but i went into the bios and raised my bclk from 133 to 153 which made the cpu run about 3.35Ghz with turbo on, and the volts shot themselves up to 1.312 automatically....... don't know how good or bad that is

But my benchmarks went from 42 fps average to 47 fps average... and my gpu usage went from about 50% to about 75%

I guess ill go reset everything back to stock now since i'm assuming what i just did with the OC was completely the improper way of doing it

There you go ... proof positive that stock CPU is bottlenecking you in this particular gaming scenario.

What you did is not the 'complete' wrong way of doing it, but when you leave the CPU voltage on Auto and bump up the BCLK, your board will generally overvolt your proc far higher than it actually needs to be.

So take CPU voltage off of Auto, and try to figure out the lowest voltage your proc is stable with at the blck you want to run. 3.35GHz will probably run OK in the neighborhood of 1.20 - 1.24V would be my best guess.

Xfire w/4xxx series and below doesn't do Crysis very well, but SLI on 200 series, and everything since then (both ATI and nV) has had great multi-gpu scaling.

You do need a powerful CPU to get the most out of it though.

Ok well, i went into the bios and did the following:
-turned off turbo boost
-set voltage to 1.20
-set bclk to 163

So that come out to be 3.42Ghz, so far i have typed this much and it hasn't crashed on me or anything, getting about 46-47C temps as im typing this according to core temp.

I have prime 95, do i run it over night, what settings should i run it at? is there a time limit you set it for?

I got great framerates on Crysis back when I had a rig with a Celeron E2140 and an ATI X1650GT. It was perfectly playable.

I was running it on lowest settings at 1024x768 . ;-)

You will want to try and run Prime95 for an extended period of time. Overnight will do fine. However, for the first little bit of the test, I recommend you pay attention to the temperatures. An i7 can get really hot, really fast. If you are getting temps above 80C you probably will want to back your OC down and try again. Keeping you voltage close to stock will help with temperatures.
