XSPC Razor 6970 thoughts?

I have a pair of XFX 6950s I want to cool. I was thinking about going with a pair of Swiftech MCW80 universal blocks, but I'm worried the VRMs won't be cooled well enough. But also don't want to spend over $100 on each full cover block for two cards as well (but will if I really have to).

Been looked at the XSPC Razor 6970 blocks. I see they are only $85 each, I could live with that. But it doesn't appear water cools the VRMs, seems to be an a separate piece on the end of the block for that.

Any word on how well this block cools the VRMs? Or any other thoughts about if I should or shouldn't purchase this? Thanks.

EK will probably be your best/cheapest option. You really should just save up the extra few bucks and get the better blocks. The vrms do get hot and tell everyone that it's just as important to cool them as it is to cool the gpu.

I would try them out, definitely. XSPC makes high performing waterblocks and radiators so I definitely trust their engineering. Also, you don't have any cases of their nickel plating corroding or flaking like ek for instance.

I have two XSPC Razor 6970s coming in for my 6950s this coming Monday. I'll let you know how they do. If Skinnee's testing of GTX 480 blocks is any indication, they should be a solid block with well rounded performance (flow and cooling).

Update:

Just finished installing my XSPC Razor 6970 blocks on my 6950 cards. For a quick comparison I ran Furmark for 15min with both setups (air and water). I was running a custom fan profile that put the fans at 52% at the highest recorded temp when air cooling. Temps are maximums. My cards were set up with one space between the cards in order to not starve the 1st GPU. Ambient temps were 18.5C For the air run and 19C for the water run.

Air:
GPU 1: 88C
GPU 2: 88C

XSPC Razor 6970:
GPU 1: 41C
GPU 2: 39C

As for the VRM's I didn't measure them with the reference cooler, but with the Razor 6970 they haven't broken 32C according to GPU-Z.

Wow, I wasn't expecting the VRMs to be cooled so well from this block. I already ordered mine last Friday. Now really happy I did.
