Long-term AM3 Board

Thread Starter
I'm in the process of building a new PC, I've been looking at getting the ASUS M4A89TD.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131655

The CPU I'm buying will be a 1090T, because I plan to multitask quite heavily.
I like to game, but it's more of a side-thing. What I'm really looking to do is run my adobe master collection, and I want to be able to run as many apps at once with it at 0 downtime. I already own a MIDI Keyboard and I also do video editing on my 6 year old computer, needless to say it's so slow that it takes all the fun out of working on this stuff.

I'm a bit skeptical about my motherboard choice tho, because I do still need a board with USB3 and Sata6; however, I've heard MSI and gigabyte can overclock better. I also just found out about ASUS Crosshair formula mobos and I really like the long term capabilities of having more than 2+ GPUs (especially because I plan to use 4 monitors in the long run). There are so many choices and I've compared a lot already but I feel like I just need to ask around now to make the best choice.
I am trying to save as much cash as possible on this build and I originally budgeted 100-200 dollars for a mobo. I think it may be more advantageous to just fork out the extra cash and spend up to 300 on one that way I won't see a need to replace it within a few years.

So what I think I'm looking at now is the Crosshair IV vs other manufactures.

First things first, if you are into video editing heavily(as you have mentioned) I7 should be your selection. i7 is far superior for that purpose. But unfortunately Intel doesnt want the business from people with lesser budget so.... if that is the case here, then your selection of the1090T is perfect.
Since you are planning on using multiple video cards (ATI cards only, SLI not natively supported on amd chipsets) 890fx based boards are for you. The best one in that category is obviously the crosshair 4 formula. It OCs better than the MSI offering 890FX-GD70. If you have the budget for this board, go for it.
Another thing, Bulldozer (the latest amd cpu) is around the corner, it will be much more powerful than the current AM3 cpus..... so if you can wait, then do wait for it. It will come with the new am3+ socket motherboards with more advanced chipsets used in the crosshair 4 formula. Even if you do not buy a bulldozer, you will be able to pick up am3 cpu+mobo for cheaper cause prices are bound to drop with a latest release. These are the things you should consider and chose the path best for your needs.

I read somewhere on this forum that the MSI 890FXA-GD65 will be AM3+ compatible.

I'm not sure if this is true or not, but this board might seriously be worth considering for future upgradeability.

Can any one comment?

AM3 CPUs will work in AM3+ boards but AM3+ CPUs(Bulldozer) will NOT work in AM3 motherboards

I know that, but apparently the 890FXA-GD65 ATX has AM3+ indicated on the board itself.

Thank you Leopold, you hit the nail on the head. I did some research on possible Bulldozer release dates, hopefully it comes out this April so I won't have to wait too long. I doubt that Bulldozer CPU's will be in my price range but I didn't even consider the price drops on older technology, it will certainly be worth the wait.
