Gtx 460 question

While folding on my recently received 460, I can hear a very faint, super high pitch noise. I would guess cap squeal, but in my experience, if a cap was squealing, it was usually louder than this. Any ideas?

My 460's caps squeal on one of them, it's really quiet though. Like, only noticeable if you put your ear to the case. I'd say it's still the capacitors.

I see what you mean though. My first 8600GT squealed unbearably lol

Mine squeels A LOT when overclocked & folding.
On stock speeds you can't hear it but at 915Mhz it's annoying, you get used to it.

Oh and the tone changes when you increase/decrease the frequency.

Should I be worried about it failing? As I have no warranty on these, I don't want to have a $200 paper weight. Is cap squealing imminent failure?

@nicksasa, it's so low, I can't even hear it unless I put my ear right next to it, I just want to know if it's showing signs of failure, or if it's normal.... and how long have you guys been running your cards like that?

Yea, thats coil whine. My 460 does it, the only WU it never did it on was the old 9** WU's.

Could be wrong, but from what I've read it's not a sign of failure at all. The card should last a normal lifetime. It should also be an RMA-able issue I believe.

It won't do any harm, it's just annoying
And if it's so low, i bet it's on stock speeds. Once you overclock it ... lol

I'm the most comfortable at 900Mhz+ speeds because it's a really high pitch. At speeds like 870Mhz it's lower and much more annoying

Dont worry about it man, if it annoys you that much you can rip the cooler off and use some nail varnish on the coils.
