old AMD Athlon 64 idle temp

Thread Starter
Alright, I have a old gaming rig I used to run with a AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice core, with a stock cooler. It sits Idle at around 39 Celsius, is that normal for this chip, I just started it up 2 days ago to see if it would work, and I just would like to know if it is good.

Just a run down on the specs if your wondering.

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2.0Ghz
1GB DDR PC-2700 333MHz 4x256Mb Sticks
2 6800GT's in SLI
DFI Infinity NF4 SLI
650 Watt XFX
20 inch CRT
80GB Western Digital

Sounds normal to me, when compared to my old Athlon 64 system. It had Cool N' Quiet enabled, so the voltages dropped all the time. It still idled at ~40c when watching the BIOS health page.

That's quite hot. I used to load around 50 on the stock cooler on my 3200+. Reseat the cooler, make sure it isn't dusty and then see what its like.

I had an overclocked (2500MHz) venice core and it used to idle at about 30-33 celsius. It was the higher stock voltage version (1.4 or 1.45V) and at stock volts. I don't know if CnQ was on or not. The highest temp it ever hit was 54 degrees and that was after more than 24hours of PRIME95. So I would say your temps might be a little high especially for idle.

Hm with all you others saying that's hot, I'd probably attribute that to the absolutely RUBBISH airflow in my old machine lol..

I'll reseat the cooler first and see it that helps, and add two fans to the case.

Well, my Athlon 64 x2 6000+ is idling at around 35-40, loads to 56-62. Just applied new thermal paste and it went down a few degrees. (the old paste was ******* stone hard :S)
