Auto Underclock? 460

Thread Starter
So my 460 arrived the other day, working great. Just wondering if this underclocking thing is some sort of feature... My other card didn't do this.

What got my attention is when I would first load a youtube video all the settings would shoot up to the actual clocks and back down. (was wondering why the GPU temp wasn't consistent.)

Is this normal?

Very normal
The NVIDIA ForceWare drivers drop the core voltage and clocks while it's idle, for power and thermal reasons. Don't worry about it at all

They won't drop while you're in-game. If your game IS making them drop then it must be Pacman.

Jokes aside, I can't imagine a game that would do that, unless it's not particularly resource intensive. Why would you want to get around it? It saves energy and heat when the processing power isn't needed.

Don't worry about it; if you're not noticing extreme drops in performance in the game then you're fine. One of my cards in SLI drops down while the other stays at the normal clocks, and I don't notice it at all.

If it keeps going up and down, that is not normal. As long as any game is running, it should stay at the 3D accel mode until the game is closed.

Can you please fill in your computer details in your sig.

CS:S will play on any graphics card released in the last 3 years. It's child's play for a GTX 460.
