Video driver crashing?

Thread Starter
Hi guys, I've recently went from a 5870 to a 570 (my brother did an upgrade and instead of him getting a 460 or something else cheap I just got a 570 and gave him my 5870)

Anyway. Since installing it I've been getting random crashes. I've tried the 266.58 WHQL and 266.87 betas, same problem.

I'll be in a game (has happened in Mass Effect 2 and World of Warcraft so far). The screen will go black or switch to the desktop, but the game is still running (I can still hear the sounds from the game). I have to end task and restart it.

Sometimes it happens 2 minutes after starting the game. Others I can play for 2 hours before it happens.

Temps are 55-65c on the GPU

I didn't reinstall windows when switching from the ATI to Nvidia card. Just an uninstall, driver sweeper and put in the new card.

Any idea what else I can try?

I had the same thing on my 8800GTX and baking it worked, but you've got a brand new Fermi so I doubt it has that issue. The temperatures it's hitting are fine for the architecture. Have you got another computer you can give the GPU a go in? See if you can replicate the problem on another PC. If all is well and stable with another machine, you'll have to start looking at other components such as your power supply.

Well I just did some Furmark and LinX tests.

Furmark for 10 minutes, Peaked at 69c. Then I started LinX and Furmark at the same time. No issues.

Do you think this is a hardware problem for sure?

I did run driver sweeper, not in safe mode though, I'll try that.

Just played Metro 2033 for about 5 hours. (with a few paused breaks in between). 0 crashes.

Well, been playing some Starcraft 2, no crashes. I load up WoW, crash after 20 secs in a specific zone (Vashj'ir). Switched characters to one in Org, played for about 10 mins before it happened. Fallout 3 ran flawlessly, everything maxed for about 1 1/2 hours. Then it starts crashing all of a sudden. I'd restart it only to have it crash 20 seconds into it again. So I stopped.

Started up Crysis. Played for about an hour,(all settings very high) no crashes.

This seems very strange to me. I will be swapping video cards with my brother Tuesday night. Hopefully his 520W PSU can handle the 570, while I try the 5870 out again.

In my sig. Corsair 850TX.

I just finished Metro 2033 tonight. No crashes at all while playing that. But if I load up WoW (character in Vashj'ir) it crashes immediately. What the heck...

run the DX web setup...

it will update all your DX files...

it may help...

you could also run a system scan (sfc /scannow) to check your system files
