260gtx idle temp?

Thread Starter
Just got my gpu (EVGA 260GTX) reinstalled.... I was looking at the idle temperature and its hovering @ 53ºc... isn't that a bit on the high side?? What should it be at and what should the regular highs and lows be??

It'll be fine. Idle doesn't matter as much as load temperatures. What is your case airflow like? Is the card getting any fresh air? I'd be more worried about load temps if I were you, so check those if you're concerned.

As a side note, your card will be fine up to 90c, maybe even higher, just not for long periods of time.

I think the range of idle temp for a GTX260 is 50-60C.

You can setup a Custom Fan Profile (using AfterBurner or Precision) to raise the fan speed. Default is 'Auto' which gives 40%.

You can also check the idling clock of your card. It should downclock to 300MHz (2D idle mode) from 576MHz (3D mode). If yours does not, try another driver. Also, a background application may keep on triggering the 3D mode.

I hate when people tell others its ok to run ur card at 90c , it is not .

Does ur card drop down to 2d clocks while ur not playing games ? this is ur problem .. theres a fan on the card for a reason also .. use it .

Yeah, idle on 2d is 300mhz and 3d is 576mhz... if I do raise the fan speed, what percentage should I raise it to??

If you actually decided to read my post properly, you would have noticed that I said you could not hold these temperatures for sustained periods of time.

Just test out different speeds, generally going up in even blocks of 5/10%, which is what I do, until you find it is holding comfortable temperatures.
