i5/i7 SB, or go for Xeon ?

Thread Starter
Hi, here's the thing :

I have an i5 750 right now and it performs bloody well for my needs.
But still I'm gonna upgrade to something else soon.

I'm wondering, should I go for a SB, which means to also buy a new mobo and new mem, or should I just buy a quad core Xeon to place in my existing Asus p7p55d Deluxe and be done with it ?

Will the Xeon be a good clocker ? I don't play games, but I'm planning to oc to the max on air. So will I be better off with a consumer chip or a Xeon novelty ?

If you don't need to upgrade, there is no point, as you'll get nothing out of it.

That's what I am thinking too. If it performs "bloody well" for your needs, why make any changes?

Is there something more you plan to do within the next few months?

FYI check my sig.

The Xeons run just fine on P55.

As for the OP:

Don't upgrade to a Xeon. The threads aren't worth the money you'd spend to buy one. You might as well just wait until your CPU really doesn't do what you need it to do anymore. So like, 4 years. In 4 years you can upgrade.

Yea well, its a hobby, and if the Xeon clocks better than the consumer variant, i'd like to try that out. Want to know if THAT would be worth it over a consumer chip...
