SSD for meh laptop

Thread Starter
Went on TD for a bit and happened to notice this :http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...579&CatId=5300

I checked all the other SATA SSD's and none seamed to have the same speeds. And for $85 after the rebate it seems like a steal but I don't have any knowledge on these Kingston drives.

Would you say this would be awesome or should I look at another brand?

Already found a site with the 2nd drive bay: http://newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?...roducts_id=345 $40 seems a lot though.

I'd envision the current sandforce/c300 drop in price in the next month or so as the next gen ones come out. This should drive down the price on the lesser SSD's even more.

There was the 128g version of the Kingston floating around here for $115 or so.
Might want to check the online deals subforum.

Meh the deal expired yesterday. Thing is on Newegg and TigerDirect they don't have that many SSD drives anymore, most SATA II/3

'SATA II/III' drives will work in a standard SATA 1.5 Gbps port.

wouldn't performance take a hit? Or it would be unnoticeable.

If you used something like a sandforce drive (285 MB/sec read 275 MB/sec write), you'd be limited. Bandwidth of the original SATA is 1.5 Gbps ( 187.5 MB/sec theoretical maximum ).

You'd likely net around ~140-145 MB/sec in sequential reads and writes due to bus overhead.

For general use, you'd be hard pressed to 'feel' the difference.
