Zotac 9800GT Fan

Thread Starter
I've tried every single thing to slow this fan down because it is obnoxiously loud. My rig is super loud with it and when I open it up to stop it, everything becomes super quiet. I've tried everything I could think of Firestorm, Rivatuner, etc. I set the fan at 45% but it's still loud. I was thinking maybe I connected it to the wrong connector on the mobo.

Any ideas?

The graphics card fan shouldn't be plugged into the motherboard unless you have an aftermarket cooler. In that case you need to use something like speedfan or your BIOS to change the fan speed on that fan header.

Can you find a link to your graphics card, so we can get a better look at it?

Sorry for the ambiguity, the fan is plugged into the card. The GND pin is plugged into the mobo and the SPDIF isn't plugged in anywhere. I tried Speedfan and looked all over the bios, but no dice.

Here is the card: http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0355188

The SPDIF is just for sound and the GND you are refering to are just the ground for the front panel connectors. The front panel connectors will no impact your video card or any other part of your system. Its looks to be just a loud non-reference cooler put on by zotac. I had a Zotach 9800GT Amp and my card was louder than my current 5770.

Trying what you suggested in the other thread. Let me restart and see if it shut up. I'll take a pic and post.

Maybe the fan is broken?
Don't know if this is normal that it is spinning on 45% and it's loud cuz my (whel not zotac but asus) 9800gt with cooler like that or really simmilar at 100% was silent couldn't hear it.

Could be, although I'm more inclined to believe I've done something stupid. Everything afaik is plugged in correctly. I'm starting to think maybe the bios will help this out--only problem is I can't find it anywhere in the bios.

Is it supposed to quiet down as soon as I decrease and put apply or what?
