Why single rail is NOT better than multi rail - Page 4

So are you saying basically everything made by Corsair is bad? And we should just get Antec HCPs...

Have you heard of rail fusion? Would that disable the protection also? Is it good/bad?

why dont you state them, instead of listing this BS!

But how do you find out if your PSU has the +12V OCP on it?

Sorry, but how often is this really going to effect someone who doesn't do this sort of idiotic things with their rig?
Not often.

I mainly want the lack of a protection set to stop being advertised as a "feature".

Rail fusion is marketing speak to make single rail sound even MORE awesomeamazing than just saying "single rail" would.

The Corsair AX1200 is only single rail at 100A. Does this PSU have enough protection?
Phaedrus2129, that was a very interesting and helpful read! Rep+

I had a clear notion that you should never skimp on the PSU, but I also thought and still think that you shouldn't get an exaggerated power supply for your needs. Sure, if you plan on getting a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire, then a higher wattage PSU is a long term investment, but for those who only use one GPU, even a high end one, I see a lot of people with overpowered PSU's.

Of course, getting a PSU to better suit your needs would surely not solve the problem you stated, but it could eventually mitigate the problems (and a fire is a BIG problem).

I for example run the rig you can read in my sig, and no problems whatsoever; unfortunately Corsair discontinued this PSU because they weren't commercially very successful. And neither did they make an improved HX520w either. Either one of those, even with just one rail (although I recall the HX520 had 3 rails), would fall in the amperage category you mentioned, which would make them safer. And to be honest, a quality 520w PSU would suit a lot of people with mid-range systems. Something like a stock Core i5 2500k and a Geforce 560 ti would be just fine with a 520w PSU (although overclockers would probably be safer with a 650w PSU),

By the way Phaedrus2129, do you know if the Corsair HX Professional series has OCP on the 12v rail ?

It states it has OCP, but does not get into specifics. It does state it "Supports ATX12V 2.2 and EPS12V 2.91 standards.", but I don't know if there is anything mandatory in there in that regard - and after reading your post, I bet there isn't.

Cheers!
