Switch power supply to a Corsair unit and go for a nice ASUS/GIGABYTE board if your budget will allow it

The build looks good to me for the budget. You can probably find ram cheaper with a MIR. Maybe a 460 instead of the 5770?

This looks like a nice board for cheap

Can save $ with combos like this one

The Corsair CX430 has been known to only pull ~315 watts. And he games at 1440x900 so a 460 would be overkill.

Not to mention, Biostar makes awesome motherboards. Awesome warranty, built like a TANK and overclock better than anything else.

I would grab a RAM kit with heat spreaders. If you can overclock the processor/ram/gpu, he'd have a fairly decent gaming pc for under $450.

Yeah, he can't go over $410 sorry. I found this and it has heatspreader, 1066MHZ, and is clocked at 7-7-7.

Try:
Phenom II x4 925 + Patriot Gamer 2 1600 CL9 RAM - $165, $155 AR [so basically, $30 AR performance memory]
ASUS M4A79XTD EVO + ASUS GTS 450 - $211, $176 AR
Antec Earthwatts EA380D [quality unit] - $40 OR

[budget unit but a great one and should be enough] - $30 shipped [Amazon, click on "14 new from $29.99" for $30 price]
Total cost: $416 or $406 shipped
$45 in rebates, you do the math

Looks good, but the GTS 450 and the M4A790 would be a downgrade from a 5770 and a 890GX. He'll definitely buy the CPU and RAM combo.
