Dead Space doesn't sell well? Why??? - Page 2

I'm wondering what y'all mean by "clunky", "unpolished", and "abysmal" controls. If it's the laggy framerate or floaty-ness you're referring to, it's a known issue in both games that took a simple disable of the in-game Vsync and a force through your card's control panel to make the controls completely fluid. The bulk of the fairly simple controls are on the mouse, except for stomp, so I'm not seeing the terrible control scheme.

I praised both the first and the second for being so polished. Both games were fantastic examples of well-made physics and animation work. Things rarely looked off, and Stasis/Kinesis both worked the way one would expect them to. Lighting and music were both well done, with the second game excelling in both regards.

I suppose some of it can be subjective, but sheesh...

I actually thought that DS2 was a great game, with an "okay" story, but I do agree that the game is not THAT compelling:)

Leaps and hurdles better than RE5 , i can't even watch more than 20 minutes of gameplay footage from that game.

That is sooooooooo wrong. Everyone in MMO's plays as a chick including me... and I would love to play as a chick in Battlefield 3 but yeah.. not getting that biggrin.gif

Does the sequel induce nausea to PC players like the first did?

it didnt sell because its not Call of Duty: Dead Space 2. Trust me, if that were the name it would have broken records. To me it seems that just having a popular name can make sales, I mean, launch day is all that matters right?

just Look

Halo:ODST(x360) 5+ million sold. not exactly worth $60. not even new multiplayer!
Halo:Reach(x360) 8+ million sold. alot better than ODST but not exactly what I call a block buster type game, but it sold like one.

Mirrors Edge 2.2 million(x360 + ps3),
Dead Space (x360 + ps3) 2.65 million
Dead Space 2 (x360 + ps3) 1.08 million

this is sad, unique and fresh games are treated as bargain bin games.

just look at the CoD titles since part 4 which was great.

CoD 4:(x360,ps3,DS) 15.08 million
CoD: WaW (x360,ps3,ps2,wii,DS) 14.99 million
CoD: MW2 (x360 + ps3) 21.35 Million
CoD: BO (x360,wii,ps3,pc,DS) 21.38 Million

All CoD before CoD4
14.41 million. I think the CoD series is making a stab a dethroning Mario. their at 87 million right now, if the keep up the rate they will release another record setting game later this year. Great for them but what does that mean for games like Dead Space? Great and fun? Yes and Yes, lower budgets? Hell Yea. People could go crazy and spend $200 million on the next CoD and feel pretty good that it will sell. Can they sink even $40 million into dead space 3? probably not, since, and i am doing a very generous calculation here, say the developers get $40 a unit sold(they might make more, not sure) that means dead space has generated about $40 million. Halo 3 cost $55 million in production and $200 million + in marketing. I guess economics really does affect everyone, except CoD.
as you can see, if they were to release Call of Duty: Barbie Edition it would sell atleast 10 million before people would notice. I dont think people buy games, they buy names. They treat this like clothes.

Umm, this thread title is kind of misleading. The article says DS2 has sold nearly 2 million in its first week... the same number DS1 sold in 2 years.

That's a tremendous improvement!

It's not a record setter (yet) but it's built up some serious momentum. They're projecting it will be a blockbuster title by the 3rd installment. I don't see how any of that is negative.

I played the first game but I absolutely hated the 3rd person view which is why I never gave number 2 a chance.
