Because zombie/monster/weird creature games are boring, and the character felt like he was walking through treacle the whole time, which made the game feel sluggish.

i hated assassin's creed 1, i hated mass effect 1, i hated dead space 1.
i love mass effect 2, i thought AC2 was alright, and I am really liking dead space2. it's the smoothest game i have ever played on my pc, i guess because it is always 30 fps, which i didn't realize for a while but works out great imho. Some people just like to see huge numbers in fraps.

just Look

Halo:ODST(x360) 5+ million sold. not exactly worth $60. not even new multiplayer!
Halo:Reach(x360) 8+ million sold. alot better than ODST but not exactly what I call a block buster type game, but it sold like one.

Mirrors Edge 2.2 million(x360 + ps3),
Dead Space (x360 + ps3) 2.65 million
Dead Space 2 (x360 + ps3) 1.08 million

this is sad, unique and fresh games are treated as bargain bin games.

just look at the CoD titles since part 4 which was great.

CoD 4x360,ps3,DS) 15.08 million
CoD: WaW (x360,ps3,ps2,wii,DS) 14.99 million
CoD: MW2 (x360 + ps3) 21.35 Million
CoD: BO (x360,wii,ps3,pc,DS) 21.38 Million

All CoD before CoD4
14.41 million. I think the CoD series is making a stab a dethroning Mario. their at 87 million right now, if the keep up the rate they will release another record setting game later this year. Great for them but what does that mean for games like Dead Space? Great and fun? Yes and Yes, lower budgets? Hell Yea. People could go crazy and spend $200 million on the next CoD and feel pretty good that it will sell. Can they sink even $40 million into dead space 3? probably not, since, and i am doing a very generous calculation here, say the developers get $40 a unit sold(they might make more, not sure) that means dead space has generated about $40 million. Halo 3 cost $55 million in production and $200 million + in marketing. I guess economics really does affect everyone, except CoD.
as you can see, if they were to release Call of Duty: Barbie Edition it would sell atleast 10 million before people would notice. I dont think people buy games, they buy names. They treat this like clothes.
Regarding Call of Duty and Halo, you have to count also the bundles included with every new PS3 or Xbox 360.

that 30 fps is a vsync issue...my recommendation turn off in game vsync and force vsync using d3doverider tool.........

Newly-built IP's really don't sell well against established franchises, to be honest. Dead Space series is easily one of the best games around in terms of atmosphere and unique gameplay; sadly, a lot of people do not give it a chance simply because it's not a Call of Duty or a Halo. Same goes for really great indie games but only sold in Steam bundles due to lack of "commercial" appeal.

Your premise is totally incorrect. The first Dead Space sold decently, as the article says over two million units in first two years, not many games sell that much. Dead Space 2 is moving really big numbers. I didn't think Dead Space 1 was all that great a game.

That long list of sequels makes me want to vomit.

You know why Dead Space is not selling "well"? There must be a lot of other gamers out there, like myself, who appreciate original titles, creative and fresh intellectual properties. I like buying new and hardware pushing titles not rehashed cash cows.

I appreciate sequels when a game actually deserves it not when it is simply in the best interest of a publishers bank account.

V-Sync should be limiting most people to 60 frames per second not 30.
