Dead Space doesn't sell well? Why??? - Page 6

I didn't buy DS2 because it's too expensive for a pc game. I don't support the new $60 price tag that some publishers keep pushing. You can get one of best looking and most promising game of 2011 for $45 on steam right now (Witcher 2). How about that ?

Also, DS2 on pc won't have any DLC. *** ?

Facepalm again.
Dead Space is an action-packed adventure filled with assault rifles and weapons of all sorts. Amnesia, contrariwise, was utterly terrifying to people who played Silent Hill and Clock Tower, of all games. Many reviewers praise it on its atmosphere alone, including Yahtzee of all people (Yahtzee being the type of person to be infinitely skeptic of horror genres ever since the Silent Hill series sputtered and died)

I'll grant that Dead Space is quite a bit scarier than the Resident Evil games, and I'm not trying to say Dead Space isn't a lot of fun. But if you're trying to claim it's one of the better scary games to come out, and claim that it beats Amnesia, then you must be new to the horror scene. It fails at square one: Giving the player a weapon.

I certainly can't try to force opinions on you, but I'm doubtful as to whether you actually played Amnesia. If you're playing these games for the thrill of horror, I strongly recommend you check it out (Heck, compared to Dead Space, it's cheap enough to just buy impulsively)

Mirror's Edge was a great game, I just completed it yesterday, the design is amazing, it looks like they hired real world interior designers and architects to do in game design, the parkour puzzles is amazing.

It failed because it doesn't have enough shotguns and explosions to appeal to dumb crapsole kids, who bought CoD, but it succeed amongst the normal highly intelligent people 2 million of whom bought it.

Let's face it there is a 2 million ghetto peasant audience that developers have to pander to in order to make the game sell 3 - 4 million copies to qualify as a success, and Mirror's Edge refused to do it.

I don't think the "niche audience" thing should be so restricting. Actually, while we're on the topic of Amnesia: The Dark Descent, it makes for a good example. Now that hi-tech tools are more and more widely available, it's more and more likely that a smaller, lower-budget team of people is capable of making a fully presentable game. The adventure/fear-based game that Amnesia is obviously wouldn't sell well to the Call of Duty crowd, but its sales were easily enough to cover development (thanks to some good press about it)

so you are saying that square one for the genre of horror games is to not have a weapon? i own and have played prenumbra and amnesia, both good games, but you can only get so scared by graphics that are so dull. in addition to that fact, i would argue that a good horror game is not just about how capable it is of scaring you. take doom3, when it first came out i could barely play it because it was so scary, but the gameplay itself sucked.

all i'm saying is that ds2 is very much better than ds1, it is the little things that count. the pacing in the game is perfect, the graphics are excellent and the UI is one of a kind and took me 15 minutes to get used to. and as for the combat, it is superb and provides an experience unlike any other game. the telekenesis and stasis are smooth as butter and i have seen only a handful of minor physics glitches. even with dismemberment, zero g, force explosions, stasis, and missiles, i have seen 1 corpse roll bug and one arm-flopping bug in the entire game up to chapter 8 where i am at the moment.

it's polished and is a game that i keep going to even though i have a hundful of games that i am currently playing.
