Help choosing mobo for 6970 cfx and 7.1 sound card.

First post and sorry if this has been answered before. I'm trying to decide on wich mobo would better fit 2 6970's in cfx with a PCI slot soundcard. Crosshair IV Formula or Crosshair IV Formula Extreme. Was leaning towards the Formula but I'm afraid the 2 cards would be too big and cover up both PCI slots. Any input would be greatly apreciated. Thanks in advance.

Go for the Extreme. Lucid Hydra chip makes it reach 400 FSB.

And can go x4 SLI/CFX

So the Extreme would fit both 6970s and a soundcard on that PCI slot no problem? What about the Formula?

extreme would definitely, then again it is an extended atx so you'd have to make sure your case could fit it.

a lot of standard atx mobo's should fit, all you have to do is find out which slots the gpu's are going in and then check to make sure there is at least one pci slot that's not the exact one underneath each of your gpu slots.

I know it would work on my mobo just fine as I have had two 6970's in it in addition to a pci wireless card

I take it you are hooking up sound to a receiver with no hdmi port?

*edit* yeah the formula would not work with crossfire if you used the top two slots. you'd have to use 1 and 3, not sure if that would still be x16 x16, but don't think it would bottleneck even if x16 x8
