1090T Not Overclocking All Cores

Thread Starter
Okay so the other day I got my new cpu and excitedly started overclocking away... I got it to 4.4 GHz at 1.375 volts with my temps never hitting 40 °C in Prime95. It seemed like I got a golden chip of my dreams, lol. Well no more I have issues... I noticed in the newest Prime95 that core #0 was blazing through the tests and the other cores were not.

CPUID Hardware monitor reported all the temps on the cores the same and CPU-Z showed my core speed as 4.4 GHz, everything matched up in BIOS as well but something wasn't right... I could Prime95 the chip but when I went to run 3DMark the system performed poorly. Frames jumped from 135 p/s down to 25 p/s.

So I downloaded and installed Core Temp for cross referencing, there it was, only core #0 was overclocked.... the rest were clocked down to 800 MHz.

I have been combing the web and my BIOS for what I am missing and why this is happening. I can use the auto overclock function on this board, then all CPUs are overclocked but if I manually overclock then this issue occurs. I've tried overclocking by FSB or just multi and it still does it, it always drops my multi to 4 on those 5 cores and never increases them even under load.

Things I have tried in BIOS, disabling:

C1E, Power Now, Core Leveling (which just shuts off those cores I select to disable on) there's more but I've forgotten.

I also have Windows in Performance power state and the BIOS has been updated to the newest.

Any suggestions?

yep at stock everything works fine. I have figured out a temp way to make it work albeit without full options... If I don't enable custom P-states in BIOS, which is needed to adjust cpu-nb speeds and multis, it works. I have 240 fsb x 16 multi for 3.84 GHz and Turbo Core kicks in to 4.32 GHZ.

This obviously is not what I am looking for but at least this much works.

More progress so far, I can enable P-States in this BIOS but I cannot set the cpu vid to 1.375 or more without it resulting in clocking back to 4x multi. However this BIOS has an overvolting section which allows to.... over volt but at much higher increments... .050 volts a whack. So, by reducing the voltage in the P-States section and setting an increase in the overvolting section I have finally reached 4.0 GHz on all cores with 1.40 volts...

http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1665051

This is a strange anomaly in this board/cpu combination, I guess, since I can't seem to find anyone else with this issue on the internet.

@ darkerping

I don't use and have never had any luck with AMD Overdrive. It has always crashed my system at settings that are rock solid when set in the BIOS.

I am using the multiplier now, I thought I couldn't before.

do you have cool and quiet, spread spectrum disabled... Core unlocked enabled, make sure all cores are "unlocked" in the bios i've built setups with 4 of these chips and 2 of them i had to manually unlock 2 cores...not sure why assuming just a bios issue. I do promise you that 4.4 @ 1.375 volts isn't right don't care how good of a chip you got no way that is stable.

show me a prime 95 blend at 4.4ghz with 1.375volts? i dont think its possible with your cooler. first of all...you need to disable cool and quiet and c1e and set your power option to high performance. and disable any spread spectrum.

Turbo core only kicks in with 1-3 cores. But Prime95 should indeed be using more of the cores by default and turbo would not kick in, that is weird. In any case you should disable turbo, it causes a lot of problems i.e. I enabled it, accidentally sent 1.675V pumping through my poor CPU
