Huge raids with dropships and tanks and crack teams of 30 or so guys clearing rooms with chainguns and plasma grenades, while snipers on a hill pick off people defending a base so the armor can roll in. Epic air battles with gunships, interceptors, bombers and scout craft. Tanks and artillery providing cover for transports to roll into a base and drop off a squad to capture it. Probably one of the most epic, and organized MMO games of all time. People just wanted an arcade shooter, and didn't care to walk for 30 seconds from a spawn point to where the action was.

I still get chills when I see a screenshot of literally hundreds of people converging on some objective, with explosions and carnage everywhere.
This, and have some rep for saving me from having to type the same thing!

Best times of my gaming career takes place in Planetside. Like others have said it was way ahead of its time and the battles were purely epic. Sony really held this title back themselves when they dropped the development team down to nil once they saw it wasn't generating cash like EQ.

I left mid 2005 because although it was fun, paying $12/13 a month with no development for the game turned me away and WoW's pvp( lol Tarren Mill) kept me entertained. I do however plan to support this game and will see what really is "NEXT" for Planetside.

REJOICE!!

I have been reading about this. When this drops my Global Agenda days will be over.

I can't wait... I played Planetside from release right up until release of BFR's then I quit because they were dumb.

I can't wait for this game! It better live up to original PS!!

And these x 10000.

One of my favorite things to do is go infiltrator and mine the hell out of their air vehicle spawn point and run around and shoot people in the back when they are in line at the control panel thingy, then disappear and repeat.

"YAY my avenger popped, BOOM. ***?"

For those interested in the original, you can create an account at

https://account.station.sony.com/reg...?theme=station

and download the original on a 2-week free trial. It's nothing like it used to be when it launched 8 years ago, but it's still quite fun.

Well put. I also played this game from beta through the bfr's, but stopped shortly after. But this game was definately a bad arse game since you can battle with hundreds to thousands of people on a map/continent. I remember being in an TR outfit(HMX-1) on the Emerald server and rolling armor columns and galaxy drops, those were good times. Can't wait for the new PS to rollout, will definately have to check it out.

I remember some Planetside battles that would last all day. There is no experience in gaming that can simulate the thrill of 30 people parachuting from transport aircraft onto the roof of an enemy base that your 500-player-strong team has been sieging for 8 hours, and sucessfully clearing a path through the inside to disable the spawn room.

I eagerly await Planetside:Next, and have been doing so for a few months now.

NEW CONGLOMERATE FOR LIFE!

Terran Republic sucks.

And we both just laughed and shook our heads at the Vanu on my server.
