CPU Voltage Questions

Thread Starter
So I've been overclocking my Q9550 for the past day or so. When I got to just over 3.0 GHz, it would fail the intel burn test, and I would assume that the CPU just needed more voltage.

When I tried to find out what voltage the CPU was running at stock, I got some conflicting reports. AIDA64 says the core voltage is 1.1V-1.225V under the CPU page. It says 1.1V for VID under its overclocking page. CPUZ will show readings from .997V to 1.225V.

When I went into my BIOS, the CPU Voltage setting was on "auto". When I switched it from that to 1.1255V (assuming my stock voltage was 1.1V) I noticed a drop in temps when running the burn test (suggesting the actual stock voltage was higher).

So my question is, what voltage is actually what my CPU is running at? I'm guessing it's the 1.225V. Thanks for your help.

the SAFE voltage range of the q9550 is 0.8500V-1.3625V according to the intel website.

But if you want more a little more clock speed... I DO NOT recommend going over 1.4v if you are keeping an OC for a long time.
