H70 @ 100 degrees idle

Thread Starter
I used the stock cooling paste
I installed it correctly as far as I know
I have my fans set to 100%
I have a push pull setup like this : http://techgage.com/reviews/corsair/h70_cpu_cooler/official.jpg

I dont feel hot getting pushed out off the radiator.
One tube is hot, the other one isin't

So is my h70 pump broken?

All the temps where achieved within 5 minutes using 2% of my processor

One hose being hot tells me your pump is not working. Is it plugged into a non-throttled fan header or directly into the PSU?

it would be 2 things

1. If its not seated fully and not making any contact with the cpu itself which explains the temperatures. But since you say you installed it correctly that "might" be out of question.
2. If the pump is broken. Do you hear any noise coming out of the pump when you turn on the pc?
Uh, seriously 100 degrees!? That will almost fry your chip.

Reseat your CPU now, check to see the fan headers on your mohterboard are working and are plugged into the pump. The pump is essential. You could also try directly hooking up your pump to the power supply and the same goes for your fans. If the issue persists you probably have a faulty cooling unit.

Hope this helps.

So could my chip allready be damaged/reduced power wise? I think I ran it 5 minutes with that temp.

Possibly..
It shouldve throttled down/shutdown to save itself.

Otherwise i'd say that the pump is dead.

I doubt its damaged, the limits Intel sets on the throttling of the CPU is to PREVENT damage which means its before the limit when heavy and sustained damage occurs.

If the pump is plugged into a fan header you should be able to go into the BIOS and see if it has an RPM reading. Should be in the 1400rpm range.

The chip should be alright. There are thermal protection mechanisms in place. Just don't run P95!

If one hose is hot, the pump is not running or not running full speed. Try plugging in directly to the psu. You'll feel the temp of that hose drop immediately.

I ran my i7 950 at 103 degrees (full load) for 5 mins, still works like a charm.
So your chip should be fine
