Why don't people understand this?
I think because most people hear o "GAMES" Can't use that many cores so they assume its useless. They don't understand virtualization and data center environments where the more cores per sq ft of space you can cram into a rack the more $$ you can generate.

This CPU is pretty extreme futureproofing in terms of gaming, but I expect this to be used more for workstation scenarios, most people don't use xeon processors for gaming. Bulldozer however will probably be more aimed towards the gamer.

bulldozer is an architecture name ... not a product .. so there will be bulldozer server products with obviously more cores .. and bulldozer desktop cpus .. aimed more at us ...

If you think the price is too high, then you should read this:

http://blogs.amd.com/work/2011/04/14/tax-time/

If you are a business you can enter the contest and possibly win an AMD fusion-based notebook.

And, as an aside, I believe the server market is larger in units (and definitely in revenue) than the enthusiast market. So for those that make comments about server technology in refernce to gaming, you have it backwards

My xeons were even overkill and there 6 cores each.

I did skimmed that. Saw it on AMD's Facebook fan page and had a "Oh how I wish I could" moment.

It's not so much the sticker shock of just material costs but overall system costs. But what everyone's saying make sense but it really does adds up to that much huh?

For some clearity:
"Entrants must be representatives of the company they enter. Entries from an Individual will not be considered."

Systems guys are generally never designated company representatives... that is usually PR, marketing, sales, etc. Or do you mean employees?

Also, "What is your role in purchasing?" <-- should be check box for multi-select.
Once again...
