Better gpu or cpu - Page 2

What motherboard do you plan to get? Remember you want to get something that'll be capable of handling 125W TDP processor

For the price of the X2 consider the Phenom II X4 820 OEM on newegg for 105.

Guaranteed quad, L3 cache, and can be overclocked much higher than 2.8ghz on a good motherboard. All you sacrifice vs the 955 is the unlocked multi, 2mb of l3 cache, and potentially a little bit of oc headroom at the very high end, while saving 35 dollars.

Gambling to unlock cores when you need a quad core (and more and more games NEED a quad core) is just a bad gamble. I had a 555 that didn't unlock and some games just beat the crap out of it (Warhammer 40k - DOW2, BFBC2, COD:BO, ME2, Dragon Age, and GTA4 are all examples of games that really need more than 2 cores).

Note with C2 revision you lose ability to reliably run 4 DIMMs of DDR3

The quad core is the deal breaker here, don't even try to play games on a dual core now it just doesn't work and never will from this point on.

GTA4, Red Faction Guerilla, all of the games like these have certain things that are really good about them, but also make you need a quad core. RFG has A LOT of destruction, GTA4 is a huge world with a lot of great physics.

Flash the 6950 to a 6970 and see if you can turn the x2 into an x3 or x4

Chances are good that you will at least get a little more then what you paid for, and it's entirely possible that you could get what you really want anyway for $100-150 cheaper.

Even if neither unlock you should still have no problems crushing most games with a lil overclocking
