After some "real world" testing, the 1090t is going back in it's box...

Thread Starter
and the 945 is back in it's rightful place in my tower.

Benchmarks are nice to see, but they meant absolutely nothing for what I needed. In all benchmarks including cinebench 10 & 11.5, passmark and 3dmark, the 1090t shined like it should.

But turn to today and I converted a 90min 720p mkv movie to divx hd. Specifically a 1280x720 2-pass run. The 1090t@4.2ghz completed in 47:19. And then I cleaned and installed the 945 running at 3.75ghz, and it completed the exact same task in 50:07. Less than 3 minutes difference for a $217 investment... SO not worth it. Needless to say, I'll be returning it tomorrow.

If anything, I'll be working in getting my 945 to hit 4ghz.

Welcome to the world of diminishing returns. I feel the same way about a lot of things.

Use a different application.
1090T over my 720BE was about 95% faster in Handbrake.

if only you knew about overclocking... i'm sure the 1055t could shave off more than 3 min at ~4.2ghz/3ghz nb

depends on what other settings you have on and what software your using i found that it really makes a big difference .. i usually keep to ipod video settings and complete in around 12 to 16 mins depending on settings but you might want to look into a raid or ssd drives
