tpi2007, if I understand correctly are you saying that I should be running Windows 7 64-bit on my current system as it is right now and I will see a performance increase?

Yes, definitely.

Your CPU will work a little faster too in 64-bit mode. And both the 64-bit operating system and modern games can take advantage of the whole 4GB of RAM.

Right now you can only use between 3 to 3.5 GB of RAM, depending on your system configuration. And 32-bit applications (including games) normally only get to access 2GB of Ram.

With 64-bit applications and games that limit does not exist.

The other day I tried Crysis Warhead on my Media Center on Medium settings (High Shaders) at 1280x720 (720p), in DX9 32-bit mode, using Windows XP, and it used 1.36 GB of RAM. Now imagine what a modern game like Crysis 2, with better quality settings and resolution (and yours is higher than 720p) can take advantage of. If you don't want stuttering because the Hard Disk has to constantly access to swap information back and forth from the RAM, you can only do well to move to 64-bit.

Oh, and if you buy a Graphics card with 1GB of GDDR5, Windows 32-bit will only be able to use 3GB of ram, at most. The 1GB of memory from the GPU (along with other system resources) has to be mapped using the remainder RAM, that is why you will never be using it to the full. Oh, and if you buy a Radeon HD6950/6970 with 2GB of GDDR5, Windows will only be able to use 2GB of system ram! That is why everybody is moving to 64-bit. It's starting to be almost imperative.

Windows Vista and Windows 7 32-bit report 4GB of memory installed (unlike XP when 4GB is installed), but, as with XP, it can't fully use them. It's just for consumers to know that all the sticks are correctly installed.

Cheers!

That wouldnt be the smartest thing, hed have to upgrade PSU and CPU first before anything else.

No, I suppose you wouldn't see anything wrong with that...
Not at all..

I bought this 3 months old GTX480 for the half price so I didn't really care about what people would have think of it being matched up with 19" monitor..

And I want 60FPS+ in max out Crysis/Crysis 2 so this GPU power was a must..

And OP wanted to have 60FPS+ in the Crysis 2 so GTX480/570/580 would be a great choice for that..

Read the OP first and then post later..

CHEERS..

At that res, so would a 460/470/560, for much less money. You should probably stop giving advice now.

Well hes right...if your CPU doesnt bottleneck, at that res, you would need a much higher clock to feed the GPU the same. (Not saying that yours would, but its a well known and accepted fact that at such a small res, you are suffocating the GPU)

1. Learn how to form proper sentences, OCN is a place where people want to understand what you say.
2. How can you speculate on that? No info has even been released.
