I have a dv Pavilion myself, and it runs quite warm at ~50-60c idle, and ~83c under load, depending on the ambient temperatures. If AMD's desktop processor thermal limits are anything to go by, then that is on the hot side. However, the mobile athlons might have a higher threshold.

If so, I'd say that's normal for a laptop, but still a bit warm. Invest in a cooling pad, or make sure the laptop has good ventilation around it (no vents being blocked, don't use it on beds, etc).

The dv series is absolutely rubbish with keeping cool. Mine has its fan on full tip all the time, and the trackpad gets very hot.

Every other modern laptop I've used seems to keep cool quite well D:

Try blasting compressed air through the fan's inlet and outlet to clean any dust that has built up
