That's your opinion. I wanted to flash mine to a 6970. What exactly is the problem with that? Sure you can unlock then overclock. I've had no artificating of any kind even when overclocked to 1000/1450. There is no definitive proof that the card is dying due to the bios flash. Any more than there is that overclocking in the first place wasn't the cause. Or maybe they just had a bad PCB. We all assume these cards were branded 6950's for a reason. Binning maybe it. Still didn't stop me from unlocking the 4th core on my old AMD processor. Never had a problem there either. Everyone mileage may vary when modifying anything. That doesn't mean we shouldn't do it.
Again this is your opinion, and I wanted to do so with mine. No where is their a guarantee that you can flash a card, but thats the wonderful thing about a dual BIOS and, if needed, the ability to RMA. I wanted to get the most out of my cards. And I have. Without a single problem. Voltages are good, no BSOD, not even a driver issue.
I understand if other people are having trouble, happens all the time, and not just with flashing a GPU. Last I checked, the pursuit of excellence was the motto here. That's exactly why I did it, and made the guide for others. If people aren't able to afford to RMA if necessary, then why would you unlock the shaders or overclock the GPU at all? I wound't bother with a halfway measure. Go big or don't do it
