So?

You're point had nothing to do with what sites people use, it was about how ISP's don't care about what you download and that they don't care what big companies say.

Obviously this isn't true.

What problems are you talking about? I didn't mention any problems.

If you mean piratebay then that's because they're probably using a proxy to access it or they're using a different ISP.

The fact that Eircom blocked the largest torrent site in the world just because a large company told them to proves that they do care. I would definitely call completely blocking access to a torrent site a "problem". (Whether or not you or people you know prefer using private trackers is irrelevant)

Also people have already posted saying they received letters and emails from their ISP warning them to stop downloading torrents, proving that they care.

Also ISP's commonly cap download speeds for people who use torrents excessively, again proving that they care.

Just because you or your friends haven't encountered these kinds of problems doesn't mean it isn't a possibility.

there is no law saying that you are not allowed to download it the law is that you are not allowed to upload copyrighted material. its a loop hole, i use this when i upload music to youtube and i get away with it "Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Fair use is a use permitted by copyright statute that might otherwise be infringing. Non-profit, educational or personal use tips the balance in favor of fair use." so if you use the software or music or whatever you downloaded as long as you stick to those fair use things you can get away with it.

What about usenet and nzb files? I've downloaded torrents before (not much) and if it was something from say NBC or something COX sent an email warning me to stop.
You actually have to pay to use Usenet so is it still illegal (I am assuming so)? Can your ISP see this? Can you block your router so they cant?

unless if Usenet has got the legal right to upload it and some of the money they get goes towards the copyright owners then yes it is legal a bit like spotify if you use the free one then you have to sit through adverts after every few songs because they have to pay the legal owners to let people listen to them.

I'll make it simple for you guys.

TORRENT SAFETY

Quote:
1. Torrents can easily contain viruses. If your smart, read below, you will not get them.

2. Torrents ARE NOT illegal, neither are their websites that host them (ex. an update to a game). Torrents that contain illegal material are illegal (such as a copy of "The Lion King").

3. The use of torrents is mainly to distribute illegal content. The other main use is to provide fast downloads to files that are bogged down on the release website's server. (ex. you download at 100kb/s on xyz.com for a free update to your game, you get the torrent of it and download at 1000kb/s).

4. Most torrent websites (such as thepiratebay) are being shutdown or are shutdown. You can still visit thepiratebay and get illegal torrents, but the torrents are never actually hosted or originate from them anymore.

5. My favorite torrent website still working good is http://kickasstorrents.com. You can venture all you want there and not violate a law.
How to avoid downloading viruses?
Quote:
a. HAVE AN ANTI-VIRUS SUCH AS AVG. IT WILL CATCH THEM ALL! (POKEMON!)
Unless you have a crappy AV!

b. Check the file name. If a file is named file.mp3.exe it is not an mp3 it is an EXE, or application which will 99% be a virus.

c. Check the file size, if you go to download a 100mb update to a game, and the file size is 10kb or 10mb. It is 99% a virus.

d. Look towards the middle of the screen, if you see a "crown" located next to the torrent it means they are king. Being a king means you are a verified member of the community, and you never host any torrents that would be malicious.

e. Check the comments ALWAYS!!! Most users will warn you that the 8gb file your about to spend 4 hours downloading is a fraud/virus. HOWEVER: If some dumb user says "ATS A VIRUS!!!!" to a Keygen, they probably just had their Anti-Virus false tag it.

What the heck is a keygen? A program that "hacks" into your game and attempts to "steal" an activation key from the local code used in the program. So it technically is a virus. But a good one.

However, with a Keygen you can never be SURE if its a bad or good virus. So ONLY EVER download keygens from King torrents.

f. Download pron VERY sparingly. The free websites should be good enough. And you can almost never catch a virus from streaming videos (ie. not downloading them).
