Forza Motorsport 4 is attempting a greater degree of racing fidelity than previous installments, according to a new details reported by MSN (via Eurogamer).
Turn 10 reportedly worked with the tire manufacturer Pirelli to study properties like weight transfer, and rented out every track that appears in the game so they could study it. Spending days at each track, the developers took "terabytes" of video and photos and traced each section of the road with a GPS system.

Forza must have a MASSIVE budget. Wish I could work on it.

so they are going through all that trouble so you can look ridiculous with the kinect which is made for games like mario kart (well xbox equivalent of mario kart) and dancing

as much as I love GT5, I hate the tuning aspect of it, its crap.
Which is one reason why I love the Forza series.

i dont think the kinect will be used to play the game. It will probably be used to experience the car itself, such as they shown last year during one of the video game conference, I forgot which one. If you have a kinect, you can explore the car so to speak.

Renting out tracks isnt that expensive, for a 2 day event, it avgs 5k-20k depending on the track, if you have 20+ people showing, their cost will take care of the rent.

Im glad they are going to get some data off of pirelli. In Forza 3 they talked with bridgestone, michelin, Toyo, and other companies to gather data on tire flex, tire wear, and other things. Now they can use Pirelli own private data to compile a whole better tire system. Sim racing all depends on tire data, if its crap, the sim is crap. Tires are the only thing touching the road, which is why I cant figure out why GT5 doesnt even let you adjust tire pressure or offer different tire sizes. Theres a reason why pc racing sims like rFactor and iRacing spends a ton of money on tire physics

I am, admittedly, a GT person over Forza any day of the week. But I'd REALLY like to see Forza stick it to GT just so Polyphony Digital stays on their toes!

Are you kidding...? They already have. GT5 has trouble pulling off features that Forza Motorsport did in 2005.

And FM3 outscored GT5 at every publication. Polyphony dropped the ball and was way too cocky about themselves. Please don't make me find the quotes.

FM only competed with GT ONCE and that was back in 2005 when GT4/FM launched. Ever since, FM has been competing with itself(and PGR) as there has been no competition to help spur innovation.

Even GTR for PC adopted a feature that Forza did first.

I am a long-time GT fan having owned every game in the main series and have devoted thousands of hours from endurance races to tweaking, collecting and licenses.

I agree with you! Sony needs to do away with these horrid development cycles only to come up lacking to the competition.

There is no need to have 1000+ cars when other games are better with less than half that number. Give us a more polished, more complete game, with less cars, in less time and then Polyphony can have my heart like they did with GT3: A-Spec. Until then, I'm sticking with FM.

^^^ Well I must have missed all those quotes. ^^^

But GT5 is the big boy on the block at least at the moment being the most recent release. But I stick by hoping that Forza keeps them on their toes. Actually I hope they both keep each other on their toes. So we the gamers win.

I enjoyed both series, but I have to admit, I prefer the latest Forza over GT5 or even GT4. If only the 360 could accept input from the G25/27, it would be awesome.

OT : I can't wait to see how Forza 4 pans out. If it demonstrates the same progress that was achieved going from FM2 to FM3, I will definitely be getting it.

Yes big boy. As in not how much we enjoy it or how good it is but in the fact that it has sold over 5.5 million and is the most recent release in the ongoing "war" between the two.

When Forza 4 comes out it'll be the new "big boy" on the block in my book as it'll be the most recent release. You know what I mean. I'm just using it as a turn of phrase.
