Im pretty new to this stuff and never really heard anything positive about it

My excitement for pre-ordering Crysis 2 was severely hampered when I read stuff about it

Probably the same as always. SecuROM, 5 machine activation limit, and a disc check.

Hopefully the steam version will have a damned revoke tool!

What does SecuROM do?

Im fine with disc check if it means that I need the CD to run the game everytime.

As for 5 install only.. that sucks

Why kiwiasian? We have done nothing wrong here.

The game should come with a revoke tool, meaning if you need to reformat your computer, you can revoke the installation and gain back an install.

If you use up the installs, an email or call to EA usually resolves the problem

Its just a form of DRM, I've never had any problems with securom, its simply installing, activating over the net and forget... until you need to reformat and use the revoke tool which I seem to always forget (I've used up all of my warhead activations now just on my PC ).

The official announcement on the DRM used is going to be the deciding factor as to whether or not I buy it. This game isn't going to have anything else going for it that would make me ignore restrictive DRM seeing as it's a Crysis game.

If it's got SecuROM I'm not buying any Steam copies, nor will I be buying it for anywhere near release price.

I refuse to pay full price for a broken game I have to download a third party fix for. A game loaded with DRM is what I would consider broken. And hey, let's be honest here, Crysis is a series designed so people who spend more on their computer than their car can justify their purchase, so for an actual gamer it's not going to have any features that override the DRM.

SecuROM takes away your right to install it on as many computers as you damn well please as well as reinstall it as many times as you want. It also takes away your right to run disc emulator software on your machine, and it has a habit of taking away your right to play the game you paid good money for because it's not in a good mood. You are well advised to either pass up or crack anything protected by SecuROM.

OH! So it'd disable stuff like Virtual Optical drives?

Probably disc check and hopefully no install limit. I've never run into problems with them but they always make me feel uncomfortable. I remember them saying in one interview that they would use typical DRM solutions.
