[NEW UPGRADE QUESTION] Corsair Heaven (56K warning!) - Page 15

Not sure I want to put more lights into the build.... will have to see how it looks with the side panel window installed and mounted to my wall. I will definitely be using white lights if I do add more light. Just gotta figure out which ones would be the brightest and the easiest to hide in the case. I hate looking into a case and seeing the light tube.

I'm going to Lowe's today to find the brackets needed to mount this thing to my wall. Then to call either my father-in-law or my brother-in-law for help making it perfect. They are both in the construction biz and have all the right tools to make it level and secure. Thinking about just putting it straight into the studs in my wall so my beautiful machine does not crash and burn on top of my TV.

HAHA, just remembered. I was showing a guy at work my new build and it took him a minute of looking at the pic, then he says 'what kind of engine is that?' I started laughing then he realized it was my computer. Gotta love when a rig is confused with machinery.

My wife pointed out that the color of tubing that I found is too light for my system. I have been browsing the web for about an hour and I cannot find anymore blue 1/4" ID tubing. I'm afraid I have two options.

Get the tubing that won't match

or get a dye bomb or two and make it match.

I've heard bad things about adding additives to the loop, but I want to know if it's going to kill my system or should I be ok adding it for the color?

I would highly highly discourage coloring the water. This is because it can junk up your block, but most of the time it junks up in the highest flow restriction area, and the H50 block is insanely restrictive. So it will happen, it is just a matter of time.

You might be able to get this tubing.
http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/item.aspx?itemid=30088
it comes in 100 foot chunks. so you would have a lot of extra. LOL.

I would say get some new clear tubing and then use some blue dye on it. you can dye the outside and not have to worry about the water inside.
I forget the name of the dye guys have used. I will look into it though.

EDIT: found it. another member did it with tubing.

Thanks for finding the tubing. I'm going to go ahead and order it and then use it later as I need it. Hopefully soon I am getting my side business started, building high-end rigs for the wealthy clueless. Then I can use it up or add more stuff to my rigs

I also found a small tripod for my camera at Wal-Mart for 4 bucks so I went ahead and grabbed it.... maybe now I can video tape me doing something better and get some better shots of the rig as my hands shake all the time..... kids will do that to you!

So I went to Lowe's today in search of some brackets to hold my computer on the wall. I found these with a support bar to help hold the weight of the rig.

I also purchased some of this Gorilla Tape to help against the finish on the brackets. This tape is super strong! The finish on it will help prevent the computer sliding off the brackets. I will also find something else to put as a stopper on the end. I may wrap the end of the brackets a few times with the tape. But I'll figure that out as we mount it.

I also got some 3M tape of the gods to help hold the brackets to the wall and to mount a webcam to the old rig that I sold.

First step was to lay a piece of tape out on the table sticky side up. Then I position the bracket in the middle of the tape

Then I rolled the bracket to the left and right as to create an even fold to cover the side of it to make it look better.

Then I folded over the end and then trimmed it up to make it look nice.

One bracket is done and then I did the other the same way

Notice the hole near the end of the bracket. It may come in handy if I need it. I was thinking of either zip ties through it or something else to act as the stopper.

All finished with this little project until I can convince my in-laws to come over and help me out. I've got to find the studs in my wall to put them in then either screw it in place or nail it in. My landlord is not going to like it, but with the damage from baby gates, baby-proofing, and the kids themselves.... I think we won't be getting back our deposit.

More to come as I get it on the wall.

On a side note.... I think that my little tripod did its job well enough. Held the camera still where I only had to take one shot of each instead of 14 to get one that wasn't blurry.

Another side note.... the side panel will be here sometime Tuesday or Wednesday I hope. The parts for the sold Antec rig are coming in on Tuesday, I will have to spend a few minutes installing a harddrive and loading Windows onto it. Then transfer over files that I include with all my builds

Well yesterday my father in-law "Master Carpenter" came over and helped (did it himself) and we (he) got the shelf built for my computer.

I had to run to Lowe's to buy screws (I got the wrong size), then I went over to a local lumber store and picked up more screws and a 1x12 two feet long. He looked over my setup and picked up my computer and determined that a board to sit it on would be best for it. Since I have worked for him in the past and know how good he is at building things I bit the bullet and the $2 and bought the board. Got back to the house and I got the wrong screws (again), so I took my final trip to the store and got the right parts. All in all it cost around $20 to get all the stuff, and now I have 3 packs of screws that I will be able to use on other things.

the shelf is about 50 inches in the air. Which makes it a pain to hit the reset button on the back side if I need to..... or easy reach to take off the side panel and use the motherboard reset button.

Here are some pics of the setup, ignore the basket of laundry.... my wife threw her back out and it's been sitting there for a week while she catches up on the other things she has been wanting to do.

The wire you see is my DVI to HDMI cable that we use to watch movies with on the LCD TV. I may get a AppleTV to do it wirelessly, but thats a $100 I could spend on something else.

Look what else got here today.

While I was taking pics of it I noticed it matched my paracord!!! Woo-Hoo!!! Look at what you can do with your paracord after sleeving your PSU and having tons of extra. I still have over 80' of each color and will have about 94' of tubing left over. I'm sure I can find something fun to do with it.

Find an old computer case and take one of the two pin cables from it, extend it to the length required with some additional wire, then connect a momentary switch to it and use that as an external reset switch. Shouldn't cost more than a $3 or $4.

That's a good idea but not something I think I need... The amount of time it takes me to stand up and reach up to the top of my tower I can pop off the side panel and press the reset button on the mobo. And in an emergency I can hit the PSU kill switch faster then standing all the way up.

I did run into my first speedbump today. I got an email about 4:00 today that my computer had "made a strange whirring noise and then shut off". My wife thought my Yate Loons on the H50 went super speed right before it shut off. I highly doubted it b/c they are on the fan controller at full blast. So I decided to reboot the system to see what I could reproduce. My wife was able to get it turned back on and it ran fine.

When I hit shutdown on Windows I heard the whirring noise. The screen turned black and the noise got louder. I popped off the side panel and the GPU fan was spinning faster then it was probably made to go. I hit the kill switch and let it rumble down. I checked the pins in the 6-pin to make sure none of them had gotten knocked loose. They were all fine. I then used my laptop to make a flash disk for my BIOS. Flashed the BIOS..... it is so much easier now.... I remember back in the day it was "insert disk and squeeze butt cheeks until it was finished." That went quickly. I rebooted and I still was not happy that I fixed everything.

I then downloaded Driver Sweep and cleared off all the NVidia drivers that Revo had missed.... basically all of them. I also cleared off the ATI drivers and then redownloaded the Catalyst driver pack. Now the computer has been running for about 3 hours doing fine with no strange noises. I hope I fixed the problem.... if not then XFX is having a GPU coming their way

I also noticed as moving some extra large files through my network that my rig drops connection for a split second then pops back on. It only happens with files over 4GBs. I moved 20GB of files with no problem... about 30000 files that are small. But once I hit the big ones..... I'd have to retry and retry. Finally I reinstalled the LAN driver but that did not seem to help. My next step is to set my desktop on a static IP from my router to see if it was the DHCP refresh that was killing it.

I plan on working on the WC loop on Monday as I don't have to work, it's supposed to rain, and my wife is taking the toddler terrorist to speech therapy. Still trying to get that boy to answer with yes/no instead of repeating the question.

Anways I will try document the entire process of redoing the WC loop as it is my first time doing anything like it. I'm assuming I can just toss my stock hsf back in to play WoW while the loop is going through a leak test. Good thing I bought an entire gallon of distilled water at 96cents a gallon. Man that stuff is expensive for water

Try a different ATI/AMD Display Driver if you start having problems again. I've had nothing but problems with the 11-2 driver and went back to 10-12. That is working much better for me. Never got around to trying 11-1.

And standing up like that is probably a good thing. A stretch now and again can't hurt.

LOL yeah I work tech support for some fruit company. I rarely get to stand up anymore. I used to do steel construction, framing, and landscaping.... I've gained about 60 lbs in the past 3 years.... also eating real food instead of just sandwhiches has helped a lot. But I needed to gain that weight....now its time to work it off.... I guess I could move my tower off the shelf 2x a day and get a great workout.

Back on subject.... I downloaded the drivers directly from ATI this time and not XFX.... I hope this works better... if not then I'll downgrade each step until I find a stable one.... Or I'll learn to write one on my own.... thats one of my next classes in college is driver creation for video cards.... if I get it working perfectly on a few systems I'll email it out to AMD and demand a job
